Yesterday I was accused of being a scaremonger on another thread for telling people how they need to behave and react(apparently I don’t work in the NHS, I’m a bin man) in the midst of the current crisis that will get exponentially worse.

Don’t listen to ANYTHING I say but do yourself a favour and listen to Dr Jack......PLEASE.

Stay safe and well in the coming weeks and months.

trying to make into a replay of the MMR thread probably
Makes me weep. We have ABers now disputing the credentials of someone who obviously works on the front line for the common good and is issuing sensible advice. Sadly a lot is falling on deaf ears.
When certain ABers have minor ailments and ingrowing tgoenails they are hollering from the rooftops for Sqad. I don't doubt Sqad's medical qualifications for one minute but why should Chilldoubt not be listened to . This Virus doesn't appear to be taken seriously by some fools and sugar coating the situation will not get the message across to the ignorant.Bedside manners and soothing platitudes won't beat this current crisis so get real.

erm
always been thus ( Mrs Thatcher) - you just didnt notice

if you look out of the window - there is in fact very little going on.
Potty isn’t it, Retrocop.

If you listen to the radio you will hear people are flocking to the beaches and beauty spots. Visitors to Snowdonia have exceeded usual numbers for time of year. The authorities are thinking of closing down the National Park because idiots are not heeding government advice. I don't give a flying ..... for the selfish t...ts who may succumb themselves ,but, they could at least think of the vulnerability of others.
My mental health is suffering.
The missus is driving me crazy :-(
//hey could at least think of the vulnerability of others//

yes - no - this is a replay of the MMR thread only sort of in reverse. Deep thinkers on AB much deeper than me ( only shallow and for the moment, me) were saying whether or not MMR works ( it does ) people should be exposed to the argument that it doesnt, so that they (the parents) can make a reasoned decision.

My lively protests I recollect were erased amidst allegations of unlawful behaviour and I was put on the naughty step from which I have only recenlty got down. chastened humbled and apologetic

and so mutatis mutandis(*) ( soxxa folks - that means just changing the terms MMR for corona but in ancient forrin) - crazy stuff on social distancing must be allowed on this site in order for the proles in the street can make a reasoned judgement for and against

(*)it looks latinny because it is

19 new ventilators, well that’s a bit of good news isn’t it? Good luck with the training of your colleagues, I’m sure they’re up to the challenge, as you are.
A quick, somewhat personal question for you Chilli, do you have someone at home doing your shopping, cooking, etc, and generally looking after you? It’s good to know that some supermarkets are setting aside times for NHS workers.
Hope you can relax and enjoy the holidays you actually manage this week, recharge your batteries. Stay well.

I take it he hasn't he been exposed as Wearside Dr Jack yet?

Hi Vagus,
No, nobody at home, just me. Girlfriend lives a mile away but we’re being sensible and following all the guidelines, I(or rather WE) have to in the current climate, irresponsible and almost criminal not to. Her Mum is 81 so want to minimise the knock-on effect.
It’s an inconvenience but as the cliche says: it’s all for the greater good.

Sadly, the Tesco experience this morning was a shambles. Nothing re-stocked from the day before, I was done shopping by 9.15 but had to wait to pay until 10 o’clock.
When I asked management about people queuing to pay and all social distancing rules falling by the wayside they said: it’s the rules, we can’t before 10 on a Sunday.
I pointed out that the risk of them being prosecuted for such in the middle of a GLOBAL PANDEMIC OF CATASTROPHIC PROPORTIONS they just shrugged their shoulders.
Apparently they’ve been slated for it on the news and will ‘look into doing things differently’ in the future.
Too late, damage already done!!
no sex - no wonder you are biting all and sundry
whilst we are at it hur hur hur
what does your work place think of Italys mortality being so high and Germanys mortality so low?

Not heard anybody make a comparison if I’m honest.
As Dr Jack says in the video, the Italians took the initial news by not social distancing properly and all going out to the bars instead......just like we did!
What can I say? The Germans are renowned for their efficiency, the Italians not so.....and us?
Let’s not even go there!
We’ll undoubtedly get what our actions reflect.
oh behavioural
the London effect is meant to be demographic

I wondered if it were overwhelming the health facilities then people start dying unnecessarily in the streets ....
Don't you tell people on here how to run their lives enough without telling shop managers how to run their shops?
You seem perfectly believable to me, CD. From previous posts and being on here for a while, you get an idea of who knows what about what. That doesn't mean blindly believing... but just using some sense.
My sister and I are in a slight dilemma, that we are self-employed home carers, looking after vulnerable people. But there are some relatives (who live with them) not taking it at all seriously, which risks everyone, including our other clients and our own families.
We have been given no proper advice whatsoever, so we are carrying on, for as long as we have no symptoms ourselves. But, by then, it may be too late...
Any suggestions or advice from anyone, would be welcome x
well here is message from the front line
the bin men see above unite with a message to their frenz
the usual doubters will no doubt, doubt its veracity

I’ve not posted on FB for a long time so read this.

I’m a health worker [aka bin man see above] working in Alphaville Hospital no 1 and this week all anaesthetists are being re-roled as intensive care doctors. We will be tasked with putting the sickest patients under anaesthetic and onto ventilators/life support machines. Each patient will require 10 days+ on a ventilator then may need a temporary tracheostomy to get them off the ventilator.

The intensive care unit is already full of Cov-19 patients on ventilators (10) with more requiring ventilation every day. My hospital usually has 4-8 patients on ventilators and is planning and EXPECTING 85 patients to require ventilation.

It seems the public health message is not getting through. Let me be clear. A lot of people are going to die. They will mainly be 70 years plus but be in no doubt, 30-40 year olds will die too.

Pubs have been busy, offices open, social events happening, kids parties etc. It all needs to stop. Infected people shed virus and it must be everywhere by now. It is your social responsibility to engage in social distancing. Actions NOW can prevent further disease transmission, ICU admissions and deaths which occur on average 10-20 days after infection.

Two of my anaesthetic/ICU colleagues in other hospitals are off work due to being infected (doing ok). As health care workers, we are now EXPECTING to catch it despite PPE as routinely happened in victorian times so no change there. This virus has been transmitted around the globe unchecked and will not stop until it has no where to go - social distancing/isolation Or patient death or of course recovery

Here ends my public health message.

On a more personal level, my chuld turned thirteen last month or so ago and is six weeks into chemotherapy for sarcoma. This virus is a big threat to his life and as I am going to be exposed this week doing my job, I can no longer live at home.

I have had to make the difficult choice: to do my job and save lives of people I don’t know, or to be with my daughter whilst she battles cancer. she hopefully will survive his cancer and chemo, but many people will die from flu. My heart is broken making this decision, but I choose to save the lives of strangers and leave him in the care of my beautiful wife and family.

Later this week I’ll be moving into a telephone kiosk and will not be able to take any further part in his care for the next 6 months.

Bottom line. SOCIALLY ISOLATE or people die in two weeks.

Excellent post that, PP.

Expect someone along shortly with an accusation of scaremongering or questioning the authenticity of the originator.
not my prose which is more er jerky
ventilating 10x more than capacity

did I say my nephew and his cohort were offered a course on intubation as part of their extended duties
and they all fled down the corridor screaming
no no - we all know what happens when it goes wrong !
we want to have licences at the end of this !
Surely the [aka bin man see above] was your prose, PP, or was it just a horrible coincidence?
Whoever they are, they couldn't be more full of themselves.
Also, whoever wrote it can't decide if their 'son' or 'daughter' has got cancer. You'd think a 'health professional' would know these things.
I'll call the whole thing bull-***.
