From the beginning of time there have been colds, flu, etc. This will continue and so will this new bug thingy.

Is it just delaying the inevitable by people not going out.

People have to go out, work, shops, breath of fresh air.

I do avoid crowds and wash hands after each trip out.

The idea of a two year lockdown seems unworkable.

I cannot see this going away any time soon.

Russian roulette springs to mind.
I think you might like to think along the lines of gaining time for a vaccine?
Sp. By all means you deal with this virus as you see fit. Each of us will assess the situation.
...and allowing it to spread in a controlled manner to give the NHS half a chance.
It is indeed delaying the inevitable, which is the spread of the virus, allowing time for the NHS to cope with it, redeploy all resources and to develop the vaccine.

Stay in, stay safe.
Question Author
It is impossible to stay in permanently
This is not flu. It spreads faster than flu, it appears to be fatal at least ten times more so than flu (1 in 100 cases ending in death as opposed to 1 in 1000), and it's also something we have no treatment for at the moment.

It's also worth remembering that while, yes, diseases have existed in the past, they've also been devastating in the past. Humanity never has been and certainly never will be wiped out by a given disease, but that doesn't mean we should ignore the threat. Black Death accounted for maybe a third of all Europeans at the time; before that, the Plague of Justinian probably spelt the end of the Byzantine Empire as a meaningful force; when Smallpox and other European diseases reached the Americas they ripped through the local population.

Coronavirus is unlikely to ever reach the same scale, but if we weren't taking these measures then society will pay the price. As it is, Covid-19 is likely to expose flaws in our approach to healthcare that will need to be addressed in time for any future outbreak.

Hi Jim. Comforting words, seriously.

Humanity never has been and certainly never will be wiped out by a given disease,
Most will hopefully, for the sake of themselves and others, follow the government's advice - but ultimately people will do what they want to do.

Hi naomi. Still loving cribbage, great link.

Getting the measure of Bill now.
Haaaa! Great stuff! Told you he's beatable! :o)
My OH has just said
“ The difference between us and where the virus Originated ( China), we aren’t used to being ‘told’ what to do, they are “
And I have to agree with him
12.13 I am on here sometimes. :0)
Question Author
Got the 4th ace yesterday. 31 for fourteen. Bill's face was a picture.
Bill may be beatable, Naomi, but he does have an uncanny knack of having the 'turnover' card in his favour. And he gets dealt quite a lot of double fives. He's beginning to **** me off:-//
Hi, naomi, am also enjoying beating (mostly) Bill Sr at chess, but hopeless against Ann!
Question Author
Quite right Ken. Play a 6, he has a 9. He has pairs in abundance. Always seems to get 31.
At least Bill's Yahtzee strategy is carp, so I beat him a lot there.
To the OP - this is not the time to be flippant or somehow think you're immortal and invincible. Your attitude is selfishness at its worst.
