I wonder how many will die because of Coronavirus and not of Coronavirus.

Just about every operation and medical procedure has been cancelled due to Coronavirus. But I wonder how many of those people will die as a result of the delays?

I thought it was only minor ops that had been cancelled?

If you call heart surgery minor. And of course some minor ops are life saving,

But from what people are saying just about everything except ‘Proper’ emergency operations are cancelled.

I think most cancer treatments are still going ahead and someone mentioned that private hospitals are taking these cases on.

The way I read it, all life-saving ops will go ahead. Non-urgent ops will be delayed for 3 months. I suppose the decisions will be made on how long the patient needs the bed after the op.

Category 1 curative cancer treatments are going ahead where possible and time critical, palliative and life extending treatments it depends on individual centres. If you are a young man with testicular cancer probably surgery and a hold on chemo or an out patient version, end stage lung cancer , possibly not because the risks out weigh the rewards. It's up to individual patient and their teams to decide the safest approach.

I am more worried about the number of those with mental health problems who will fall through the net, isolation, reduced supervision of medication, increased anxiety, it's a perfect storm

not meant as a criticism but i thought you were lucky to get a minor operation within three months at the best of times?
