Having daily briefings,( note I say daily) same questions, same answers, very little to be achieved. The time spent preparing drafts for speeches / correcting/altering and so forth. Are there really enough hours in the day to waste. Would it not be more lucrative for these people to spend their time on ideas / planning of what might work, and might not, what would be a way forward, you get my meaning I'm sure.

The public still need to know what's happening and when, but I'm sure this could be condensed into a briefing every third day, giving more time for the powers that be to work on the main problem. Daily totals for infection / deaths can be given to the media.
Should they feel any new, urgent news need to be given to the public, this can be arranged in no time at all.

Gromit, could I ask you to please give me a link to the most informative (i.e. in the number and spread of facts presented) UK government site you know of providing UK-wide statistics and breakdowns (to the extent that it does) regarding the Covid 19 pandemic. The sort of thing I would expect is not just the info available on here

If it didn’t it wouldn’t say much for the effectiveness of the lockdown :-)
I loved it when a German spokesperson stated that their R0 rate had risen from 0.7 to 0.9 :-)

does the infection rate have to go up? I thought it was a current figure rather than a cumulative one - if it goes down it means one person is now infecting fewer others than was previously the case.

Gromit. you must be looking at the wrong graph. the log graph shows it is slowing. Anyway, the cases figure is bound to always go up and is also reflecting the big increase in testing
