//She's not wrong about climate change,...// She's wrong insofar as her criticism should be directed towards those who are exacerbating the problem to the greatest degree. That is China (30% of global emissions) the USA (14%) and India (7%). That's half of all global emissions. The UK is responsible for just over 1%. It could reduce its share to nothing...

Regular readers will know I have no time for Ms Thunberg whatsoever. Her latest edict will have world leaders reconsidering their Covid strategy even as we speak. Her continued assertion that these crises disproportionately affect the young is hardly rocket science. The longer you have to live the more you will be affected by anything - good or bad. However, far fewer young people are likely to suffer bad symptoms of the virus or to die than are older people - something she might have overlooked.
Last month, in one of the magazines which Mrs NJ takes, there was an extract from a new book by Ms Thunberg's mother. In it she provided an insight into the condition of her daughter. I won't go into great detail but her mother made it quite clear - as I have suggested many times - that her daughter has serious psychiatric issues. She has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, she suffers from Asperger's, has an irrational feeling of victimhood and is still in the throes of a serious eating disorder, which thankfully she seems to be gradually overcoming. Her mother described how it would take her half an hour to eat a third of a banana and over two hours to eat five small pieces of gnocchi. When these symptoms first reared their head her parents' strategy was to indulge her every whim, sometimes to such a degree that her sister was being somewhat neglected. That indulgence led to more irrational demands and they embraced wholeheartedly her crusade on Climate Change. No doubt this latest campaign will be met with similar indulgence.
It's very sad that she has these ailments. But somebody with such irrational behavioural traits and who has been over-indulged by her parents should not now be indulged by world leaders and treated as the New Messiah.

I see no mention that she is fighting for those rights, Jim. The article is light on detail but it says:
//Thunberg said in a statement that “like the climate crisis, the coronavirus pandemic is a child-rights crisis” that will affect youngsters now and in the long-term, especially the most vulnerable.//
Unlike the climate crisis (if her assertions on that are to be believed) most vulnerable in the Coronavirus crisis are the elderly and those with underlying health problems. Anybody of pension age now is unlikely to see any life threatening results of Climate Change (if indeed any exist). But there is no doubt that those same people will suffer the most severe symptoms and the highest death rate from the virus. Serious symptoms and deaths are extremely low among the young. This crisis has nothing to do with children's rights.
//She urged people everywhere “to step up and join me in support of UNICEF’s vital work to save children’s lives, to protect health and continue education.”//
Why just children's lives? Is she not concerned about anybody a little older - her parents or grandparents for example? She has obviously discovered a new bandwagon about which to spout her ridiculous self-centred drivel. World leaders are having sufficient problems coping with it as it is whilst trying to prevent the global economy from complete collapse. The last thing they need is Ms Thunberg prattling on, telling them what they should and should not do.

//Except that they will be saddled with its debts for decades to come …//
Yes but so will everybody else currently working or in receipt of a pension, dividend payments or other unearned income. I accept that the older you are the less time you will be paying but such payment is not restricted to children as she seems to infer.

Well nj has listed a whole host of problems she may or may not have, and may be wrong about, but she's not wrong about climate change, and she has every right to fight for climate change, as its seems the older generation couldn't care a toss, has long as they don't have to change their way of life. But tuff titty because your being forced too weather you like it or not now.
