We're Being Governed By Retarded Fish
I understand, when leading up to elections etc.. there are phrases and lies, constantly pushed in our faces to persuade us to vote. Now, we have a cross party crisis (A pandemic) and we have Gove just spouting what ever he thinks people want to hear, then he contradicts himself.
This government is dangerous, this man is dangerous. Time for a cull, me thinks.

No wonder my daughter, and others like her, are anxious about returning to work. "Yes we can guarantee safety." followed very closely by, "None of us can guarantee safety." Clear as mud.

It seems no matter what they do, the government can't do or say anything right. Criticism from both lockdowners and anti-lockdowners.
Also on the matter of schools, parents will not be fined if they choose not to send their children back to school. It is considered in the child's best interests but they cannot enforce this.

When my daughter was ill, prior to the op, she still went to work because if she hadn't, the nursery would have been short staffed. She worked for as long as possible, against her doctor's advice, and only went 'on the sick' once it was physically impossible for her to continue working. she actually loves her job, her colleagues and (most of) her charges.
So, spice, your snide remarks are totally unwarranted. And, if you can only see one side of the coin, there's not much point in any further discourse.

Ken- given that there should be more than enough teachers available to handle the smaller numbers (and of course as attendance of pupils is not compulsory in June we may find turnouts are much lower than planned for) I would hope there would be some kind of exemption for those teachers/TAs with certain health issues. Hopefully something can be agreed on that and other duties could be found involving little or no exposure to pupils/staff.
I am not sure people realise that this decision to look to reopen schools has not just been thrust upon schools (unions, heads, teachers, TAs, governors)- schools I know were asked in mid April to start drawing up plans for a phased partial return to school and some have already put in place or are finalising new classroom layouts, one way systems, plans for staggered start times and breaks, regular deeper cleans etc

How does the partial opening of schools square with the new rule that you can only meet one person from another household at any one time? So 2 parents (same household) can't meet their 2 children (2 different households) at the same time and yet 15 kids (probably all from different households) can be in close proximity indoors for hours at a time. Where's the sense/logic in that?
13.10 ff, I'm not objecting like you say. I was giving an example of what a confusing message Boris is giving out, some don't know whether they should (now) be open or closed, with his message of ( go to work if you can) its pretty self explanatory that pubs and cafes is a no no , but all other shops?? Especially when he ends saying they will look at all other shops, has and when.
So, diddlydo, are you suggesting we close shops and most workplaces as we can't allow more than a handful of people to share a space?
The rules about meeting others are a separate issue which are there for good reason (eg to prevent house parties) will be relaxed in time- maybe you'll hear something by June- but the intention is to move in steps.

Teacake- there are loads of guidance manuals/papers out there now for employers and shop owners to refer to. Restaurant owners for example know that some take aways can be offered. Some of course flout the rules and others decide not to open even though they'd be allowed to if they could put safe systems in place.
The idea is it's a step by step approach as the government doesn't want to return to pre-Covid normality in one go as that could be distastrous but they recognise that we can't shut down schools, businesses, the economy, outdoor parks etc for maybe a year or more until a vaccine is in place

>FF - please tell me how you think it's possible to keep 4 nd 5 year olds socially distant?
Well we can't keep some adults socially distancing but we haven't closed shops and tube trains and buses.
It's got to be tried but of course it won't always be followed unless you prefer to lock them in the homes and prevent social interaction outside their household for maybe 12 months

It is not possible and they have not been doing it for Key workers and vulnerable children (I live next door to a school so I can see it). I have not seen anyone objecting to this having gone on for the last 7 weeks so as I said before it appears some consider key workers and their children to be expendable, so long as they continue to deliver the creature comforts to those hiding behind the sofa.

No one is guaranteed safety. We are big enough and ugly enough to take responsibility for ourselves.
The lockdown and resultant dictates were to ‘flatten the curve’ not to take away all dangers.
If we each take responsibility to make ourselves as safe as we can and our employers do likewise that is all that can be done.
The government can’t keep the virus from you so get a life and sort yourself out.
If you are a wee timorous mouse frightened to come out or you have a genuine medical reason for not wanting to come out then use your common sense and stay home but the rest could and perhaps should get back to some semblance of normality.
