324 Covid Deaths Yesterday, And 2,095 Cases Are They Easing Lockdown Too Early ?
Answers
Ken, we could set up something like those war graves cemeteries, with a big monument saying "In memory of those who gave their lives for the economy".

no gromit it isn't. when do you propose to ease lockdown then, i have a friend who is going back to work, though mostly from home still, and her son is going back to school, come Monday its got to come sometime, and as i said why not now. Yes its appalling that people are still dying and for that fact i feel sad and sorry, but this country has got to get moving again...
Difficult call. I wanted to delay things by a couple of weeks but I can see both sides.
One thing to bear in mind is that yesterdays death figures would have included a fair number of deaths from 1-2 weeks ago so reflect infections that probably occurred in April.
But I felt the graphs yesterday were showing infections/ hospital admissions picking up ever so slightly in many areas outside London.
I feel many people have been bending the rules for a couple of weeks anyway- house/garden parties, walking in larger groups, visiting friends and staying over, so maybe this uptick reflects that rather than this latest relaxation. But I think even if Boris, Nicola and the Welsh gov had said 'no change' people would have continued to relax.
We needed to start the economy so we can afford to pay teachers, nurses, council workers, doctors, carers and phase out these furlough payments. Maybe it should have been relaxed a little more slowly but we couldn't leave it much longer.
As for schools, maybe mid June would have been better but certainly they have to reopen and try it out so we can learn and plan for September .
At what level of deaths or infections would you have started to relax Gromit?

Good answer by fiction -factory and I empathise with gromit.
At the back of mind and that of many others is the effect of a second spike, which will be more destructive to the economy and more lives will definitely be lost.
Is there evidence of a second spike? Probably not yet, but the thought lingers uncomfortably in the mind.
Health or the economy?
I am glad that I do not have to decide, it in my opinion the lockdown has been released to soon and a second spike is inevitable, but if we have to sacrifice a few more old trouts for the sake of the economy then so be it. Someone has to make that call.
