So the NHS doctor has carried out his threat to resign if Cummings didn't. His choice of course. But is he not letting down his patients?

He resigns just when the country needs every doctor available and puts pressure on other doctors who have to take his patients. His principles are in the wrong place.

I've never even met my doctor (GP) and I've been seen by a different doctor everytime I go hospital.

Thanks for best answer. I would just like to add, my own doctor, who was entitled to resign a month ago and did so, has returned for as long as he's needed. That's a man of principles.

11.07 So its ok for Cummings to have no principles. Glad the doctor is no longer spending every day trying to make people better, while Cummings was out having a jolly with his family and spreading the virus. Now the doctor can take his family out on a jolly day out.

and he needed the money - unless he holds the free hold of the surgery and can live off the rent

well funny you should say that - in POW camp 1940 - my dear Papa ( this is why I have tacked it on the military post) was a doctor AND a miner - so you can guess what he was planning to do. ANd wondered if the Germans on recapture - optimist he was - wd say he had deserted his patients and demand the SBO ( B is for British) courtmartial him on same.

so he made sure he was treating Poles, Fransh and Serbs when he escaped. He was recaptured having walked from Munich to the Danish border having swum the Kiel canal during an air raid ( dark see?) and no charges
Soon as he said - doctors were escapting all over Germany

so erm no he wd not have been deserting his patients see OP
even according to criteria of seventy years ago

( blimey I am doin quite well for long oral memories this week - yesterday fifty years)

current law is - you give notice rather obviously

I'm not sure if the doctor is putting his family first, he's certainly putting his patients last.
