Are They Trying To Erase History?
45 Answers
Statues being taken down, 'Gone with the Wind' removed from programming, BBC not showing anymore Little Britain sketches, and last night I was presenting an online quiz on Facebook for some family members, one of my picture quizzes was Heinrich Himmler, directly I posted the picture Facebook informed me that I would be barred from their site for 24 hours due to the offensive photo!
Is history being wiped, surely history must be taught to avoid these things happening again.

Little Britain indicates that being black skinned is sacred, no non-black skinned person is allowed to play a black-skinned part. And I take it you are aware of the Leigh Francis/Keith Lemon apology nonsense. How is a photograph of a historical person, offensive ? That's seriously worrying.
No-one is going to knock on your door and demand that you hand over your copies of the book, or film, of GWTW.
You can still enjoy your DVD collection of Little Britain.
And FB doesn't know 'why' you posted a photograph of HH, just that you did and they would rather he didn't appear of their platform....
That's not history being re-written that's just an acknowledgement that times change and rather more consideration needs to be taken of, and shown to, viewers out there in TV-land.

This is hilarious and I haven’t stopped laughing for 18 years...

The left have always tried to rewrite history. The BBC are right behind this and wil do anything in their power to forward the Metropolitan liberal view.
Not sure a couple of films and Twitface entries count as rewriting history though. Twitface usually delete such references because more often than not it is the NeoNazis posting it.
But if you fell that strongly about it close FB(you wont miss it believe me) and cancel your licence like many are now doing.

GWTW isn't being taken down permanently. The plan is to put it back up but in better context. All those people worried about history being erased or rewritten sound rather hollow in their protests when they are complaining against extra context. The depiction of slave characters as being content with their lot is not remotely historical.
Gone With The Wind is an interesting case.Wi
When it was released, a lot of people disliked it claiming that the character of Mammy was too familiar with the white families. It fuelled a lot of racial tensions for the opposite reason that it does now.
It's also worth remembering that while Hartie McDaniel paved the way for black performers in Hollywood by winner the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, she did not attend the movie's premier in Georgia, because of segregation laws.
The movie is important itself in 20th century black history.

"If a black person or BAME person came on here and said GWTW and various statues were genuinely offensive to them, would any AB members appreciate that and understand why that person, and persons of their race, might want them to be less accessible or removed?"
couldnt care less what they think...plenty of things i find "offensive" but i dont scream and shout and riot until i get what i want on a plate....
