Richard Desmond, former owner of the Daily Express wanted to build on a former print works on the Isle of Dogs. But the local council and independent planning inspectorate rejected the plan.
So Desmond went to Cabinet minister Robert Jenrick, Housing Secretary who approved the development. A few days later Desmond dutifully made a £12,000 donation to the Conservative Party.

Pure coincidence and nothing at all to do with a glimpse of the underbelly of politics and business.
Only £12,000?
How do we oppose it???
What else would you expect from the Cons. Wonder how much Robert Jenrick Pocketed. Hope Piers Morgan doesn't find out.
crikey for 12K? What did Bernie Ecclscake get for his million to St Tony I wonder!
If you have any real evidence of wrong doing then you should produce it so the authorities can action it.

If you are just insinuating without any real basis perhaps you should be careful. People can get upset when accused of things they can prove they have not done and tend to revert to the Court. AB needs to be careful too.

Ymb,
I don’t have ANY evidence, I just have a newspaper report.
I have never heard of this Housing Secretary before.
He sounds like a wrong’un.
Not many replies on this thread Gromit. Think you may have embarrassed a few of the Dyed in the wool Tories on here.

Yep Gulliver1,
Expose the corruption of the scoundrels they all voted for is a bit uncomfortable for them.
Gromit - As advised, you don't appear to have any evidence that these two occurrences are connected.

You can speculate, I am sure you are not the only one, but speculation is not the same as proof.
The moral of your post is . Thats why they are known as the "Con Party".
Jenrick was asked this a couple of weeks ago at a Covid briefing (even though it was not directly related to Covid, and answered it then
ZM,15.54,"Pure Coincidence" ...... I bet you believe in Fairys...... .
Do you happen to recall what the reply was, FF?

For the benefit of the non-viewers.
Question Author
When asked at the Daily Briefing, Jenrick said

// "We want to build more homes in this country. We have a housing crisis and we need to get the country building — that's absolutely at the heart of the mission of this government and I think when we come out of this pandemic it will be even more true. //

So he ignored the question, and didn’t take the opportunity to deny any corruption.
Britain's government has the best politicians money can buy. But some can be had for petty cash.

Still, there is more rejoicing in heaven over one pornographer who repents etc
AB has nothing to fear, ymb, Gromit has merely stated the facts as reported in other media, which is standard procedure for the News section.
You should inform "Private Eye".
