Pomona - do you seriously think that people are socially distancing on that wall to wall humanity beach?? Of course they are not, and the fact alone that they are leaving behind mounds of rubbish and peeing and pooing at will and you do not condone that, means that you are as selfish as that lot in my opinion - or maybe you were there?? Why people can't accept that this year as a whole is a write off for 'normal' activities and be patient and put up with the 'new normal' and wait until it is all over, I just don't understand, but that's the selfish human race for you!

That's quite an extensive list of toilets that were open although I did hear that some people were using the beach as a loo and not just to urinate! Ewwww!

I must say I thought all public toilets were shut. According to Bournemouth council though, the following ten toilets are open from 10:30 AM to 5PM on Bournemouth seafront:

* Boscombe East, just past the coloured beach huts
* Boscombe Overstrand, next to Urban Reef restaurant

* Durley Chine, 100 metres east of the Durley Inn Harvester restaurant
* Fisherman’s Walk, 100m to the west of Fisherman’s Walk Cliff Lift and zig zag
* Portman Ravine, 400 metres east of Bournemouth Beach Lodges
* Southbourne, near Bistro on the Beach
* The Prom Diner, 200 metres west of Boscombe Pier

Whether people used them is another matter.

No.. iluvmargie ..i wasn't there...but neither were you!! Just because you're afraid to go out doesn't mean others can't. Everyone is entitled to their opinion even if it doesn't tally with yours. Not all were breaking social distancing, not all were leaving litter , so don't label them all together! And there's nothing selfish about going to the beach for a day out and sticking to the rules.

Foreshortening occurs when people are different distances from the camera. Two people side-by-side the same distance from the camera are not foreshortened. So this image shows all you need to know - look at people who are the same distance from the camera to see how close they are to each other:

Bit of a latecomer to this one but:

A. Humans are the most disgusting vermin on this planet.

B. If anyone who attended the beach develops Covid symptoms in 2 weeks time, do the honourable thing and stay home, let natural selection proceed.
Do NOT attend hospital, we’ve had a belly full of this idiocy and I’ve got colleagues who are contemplating leaving the nursing profession because they can’t face the prospect of another 3 months similar to what they’ve just faced.

Sorry Pomona you are talking rot!! I saw the pics and I stand 100% by what I said. People are selfish and should bide their time and not rush to do everything until the pandemic is over or we have a vaccine. I'm not at all afraid to go out, I go out every day with my dog and shop twice a week, but there is NO WAY I would inhabit a beach like all those utter morons did, putting people at risk all over again by NOT sticking to the rules.

Maybe not rot... an article in todays Spectator shows how the photos were perhaps interpreted wrongly...
As Ross Clark points out on Coffee House, photos of Bournemouth beach, taken at the same time on the same day, produce two very different images – and narratives. Some appear to show people packed together, showing contempt for the two metre rule, while others show almost everyone who is visible clearly respecting it. How come? The clue is in the cliffs. In one shot the bay seems to stretch forever into the distance, while in the other it seems much more intimate. The second is taken with a lens which is drawing the background much closer to the foreground, making it look as if people are packed much more closely together than they actually are. Moreover, the shot crops out more of the immediate foreground, where it would be much more difficult to make it appear as if everyone was packed together.
At the end of the day it's personal choice...
