This spending spree scares me, it’ll have to be paid back and it’ll hurt
in all honesty, it's not like it's price that's preventing me from eating out ATM, so I doubt getting it cheaper would incentivise me to go
I'll happily donate mine to someone who needs it more if it will help keep outlets going.
There are spikes popping up because everyone’s going out a bit more. This could be disastrous.
nope I won't be availing myself. Mamya I am not sure its a one each thing....I think anybody can take advantage as often as they like.
I see, well never mind.
Well, I suppose it might be better than Cameron-style austerity measures. But...
Why not print a load of banknotes and drop them from planes?
I feel the same as bednobs on the issue.
A tenner wouldn't be anywhere near enough to get me out at the moment. I just don't fancy being served by gloved and masked waiting staff. Sort of spoils the evening for me.
The food in Wetherspoons is not great at the best of times. It is cheap but tastes it. Even if it was free I still wouldn’t go.
If the discount were for a nice eatery I might consider it. It is well overdue that I have a good curry, but the distancing regs would not make for a pleasant dining experience, so I wait.
I wonder how long they'll be valid for. At the moment I don't want to eat out anywhere.
I've just listened to the video. It's for the month of August, at participating outlets (they need to register), Monday through to Wednesday for 50% off everyones meal, up to the value of £10 per person.
Won’t this be another kick in the teeth for the eateries that are not eligible. A lot of their customers will go elsewhere to get 50% off.
The criteria for registering to participate has not yet been revealed.

//Any hospitality business that serves meals can sign up to the scheme, including high street chains and independently run eateries.//
Not sure the scheme is good for the restaurants and Cafes.
They desperately want PAYING customers.
They have food to buy and employees to pay. If all their customers only pay half the cost, and the business have to wait 1 month (or 2 or 3 months) for the Government to cough up, then the scheme will do more harm than good.
I did read it was five working days to get the monies into their account after submission, if that works it may be worthwhile.

Better than nowt.
Mamya,
Fair enough, if the payments arrive promptly then it could work. If it takes more than 5 days then it could be another fiasco. But I hope it works.
I wonder if many restaurants will do offer a Monday to Wednesday 'special' at inflated prices
I would be quite happy to continue to pay the usual prices for food at our village pub (she's a great cook and it's very reasonable) and let the licensee pocket the cut in VAT to help offset her losses - but it is all so joyless now. All comfortable cushions etc. removed from the bar etc.. We will go for a drink to support the pub - but won't linger. It's nothing near the same and it needs to be - quickly.
