do any abers concur with his opinion, and his other opinions on race relations.
not sure what the bame community will make of him, cannot call him a racist.

I'm sure he has studied this more than I have, there can be no doubt that for some youngsters the lack of a positive father figure in the family could be detrimental but certainly not in all situations.

He has a task and that will involve deep discussions with groups without a lot of blaming in the mix.

They wouldn’t say it in so many words, but I suspect he won’t have the necessary bias they would like.

I suspect only a Lammy type character, who sees racism in everything, would be acceptable.

His views are certainly not new.Obama, himself came up with that conclusion and Cameron echoed him several years ago. A few afro /carribean women have accused black men as feckless fathers who father children and then move on to father others. There was an old newspaper article on this very subject a few years ago.

This is 12years old so nothing really new.

In my opinion its not just the lack of a father figure in childrens' lives but the disjointed family life that a lot if them have.

I am always wary of over-simplistic views about complex situations, but I feel that he has a point, albeit one that can be seized on to make media capital, which is not helpful.

I think there is a problem with feckless men in the black and Asian communities, and that is a cultural aspect that needs to be addressed with appropriate education of young people.

The gang aspect is more complex - I believe it speaks to a need for structure and a sense of belonging that can be absent from the lives of poor youngsters from fractured backgrounds.

Young people need stability and a feeling of self-worth and identity, and this can often be absent in their immediate family, and found in the gang structure.

Gangs hinge on the exaggerated notion of 'respect' which is often underlined with fear and violence, but for some young people, that is the only social bonding they know and understand.

Like any social difficulty, it should be addressed by education at nursery age, but as I have banged on about ad infinitum on this site, nursery education is under-valued and under-funded, neglected by politicians because small children don't vote, so they don't matter.

Start addressing the issues there, and we have some hope moving forward, but it won't happen.

andy-hughes, i agree..education, problem arises when you have multiple familes in high rises, estates etc, what went before gets embilished on the next generation, like a sore that never heals..
but as you say, starts in nursery and so forth, sadly you will always have the..i dont care f-it , and that is part of the problem, sadly always with us..you dont have to be an einstein to get on, world needs, carpenters plasterers sparks brickies etc, and they are good jobs..much respect to them.
