Anyone Else Getting Sick Of Hearing About The Corona Virus On The Tv News?
Also tired of hearing the words safe, safely, save lives, control the virus, infections, lock down etc etc. Every news bulletin invariably has some bad news about the virus and even if they can bare to give anything encouraging, there's always a 'but' at the end. I have stopped watching the news on TV now, I'm sure they revel in the doom and gloom.

I would like a bit more information about the virus and how the vaccines are coming along. I can do without all the personal stories of how people have coped, are coping, how many people are on Brighton beach blah blah. As soon as someone comes on in their home showboating on how they've baked cakes for every member of the local NHS, while home schooling three...

The quarantine rule - I’m talking about for people arriving back from abroad - is beyond farcical. I believe “Pythonesque” might do it justice. The shortcomings have been gone into many times here and I’m not going to start in again. Suffice to say 30 other countries at least have adopted a test system at airports and we have one at Heathrow on hold because the government thinks the tests are not reliable enough., for reasons best known to itself.
In my view anyway anyway no one should be made to self isolate for 14 days unless they have tested positive. Or live with someone who does in which case they should also be tested.
What happened to the claim that anyone could now have a test that wanted one?

Anyone can have a test but that is not the same as saying you can have it exactly when you want it If you want it when you arrive.
But suppose we tested everyone at the airport, Test results take a day couple of days to come back so you'd have to quarantine until the results come through. And whilst a positive test would confirm you must quarantine a negative test would prove nothing unless you had a follow up test maybe 4-5 days later, so it may be safest to quarantine until then

That is still better than what we have now.
And as I think it was NJ pointed out, it’s not as if it’s proper quarantine anyway. That’s the other half of the idiocy. You can go off and infect god knows who else before your 14 day house arrest commences.
Then there all the forms you fill in no one looks at
And so in and so on.
Makes it look as though someone is “doing something” I agree

I agree, ichkeria, that an infected person could infect many people on the way home so a test that gives immediate results at teh airport would help- but it's not available yet! In fact Teacake was saying yesterday the trial is a waste of £500 million.
I do remember 3-4 months ago many people on here saying why are we allowing Brits to fly into this country. Now we are requesting quarantining I think the same people are still finding something to disagree with.

>If it’s not a proper quarantine it seems pointless to me
So what's the alternative? Lock people up? We don't live in a police state. The system relies on trust with some checks but most know there's little chance of being caught if they break quarantine- and some have said on here they will ignore quarantine and still go to the pub. If a fairly significant number of people don't want to comply wtat more can governments do?

>Test and trace is another thing we were told would be the key weapon and so it ought. But that doesn’t function efficiently either
Yes, easy to criticise the system but the main problem is people don't/won't cooperate- some don't answer calls, give false numbers for example as they don't want to have to take time off work/quarantine.
So what do you suggest? (Apart from more local door to door knocking which i agree with rather than phone calls)

I’ve told you what I suggest.
Test.
As for contact tracing it was never going to work with a manual system relying on people co-operating, remembering to an adequate degree. As I posted here when it started - tho I claim no great credit for stating the obvious.
And the bugbear that can’t help: we come back to it again: expecting people to self isolate for a fortnight when there is no indication that they are infectious.
