Can anyone explain to me the rationale behind the rule of 6?
I honestly dont get it whichever way I look at it? I know its a contentious issue but im flummoxed by it.
I can use public transport, go to work, go to supermarkets, etc. I can spend my working day with (more than 6) work colleagues but if i have them over at a private residence after work then Im breaking a 'rule'?
A kid can spend her day at school with hundreds of other kids but if she has a few friends over afterwards, she will be breaking the rules?
More than 6 friends/students/workers/family members can get on the same bus...along with many more...but cannot meet at home?

Im baffled by the logic.

But you have a large family Theland...
They don't like me either :-(
Its a load of Toss. Allegedly my daughter can't come visit me with her family but today I've had plumbers and carpet fitters in my house with no masks or anyone taking any notice of social distancing. My mother died in a care home recently with no family around her , the care home was like the gestapo. We had more chance of getting into Guantanamo Bay than anyone spending the last few hours on earth with her. . The whole fiasco is a disgrace.
Diane Abbott - could she count to six?
APG - What a terrible situation for you. So upsetting.
“The whole fiasco is a disgrace.”

I couldn’t agree more
My take- school for example is seen as essential and the school's have been declared covid safe with masks, one way system's, no touching policy of people or property. (at my kids school anyway)

Hugging 20 drunken mates in you're kitchen without masks isn't as much a priorty and is risky so best not done for a while.

Agree -but welcoming close family with two adults and 4 children into your home to have coffee and a play in the garden seems to have the same risk -according to the pathetic government rules......
Obviusly no contact at all is best but we need to decide whats most important so some is allowed- we need school's, shops, hospitalitey, petrol station's, busses . We dont need as much to keep mixing families. Choices have to be made. We all have different need's so not all will like it off course

APG, we havnt been the best of mates on AB, but sincere condolences re; your mother.
Youve echoed my own fears re; my own mothers last few months of life. It utter madness.
In order to reduce the risk of large social gatherings that were taking place, they've chosen a number.

Whatever number they'd have chosen someone wouldn't have liked it.

Use common sense based on your family situation and hope for the best.
You do what you like in youre own home as noone except nosy neighbors but dont complain if others do the same and it spreads like wildfire
The agonies that those who have lost people during all this has been truly painful to witness,no one should suffer that way.
Thank you nailit. I sincerely hope you will flaunt all rules and make sure your mum has you near at the end.

Not a big fan of arbitary numbers plucked out of thin air myself Mamy.
^ Ditto, as I would have done had I been in this awful situation.
Exactly Nailit, I don't think anyone is.
That was in answer to APG's post.
The best number is one, Then two,Then three.. Twenty is not good. a hundred is bad. Where should the line be drew. Six seems more than enough for me , some are happy to stick to two but obviusly some prefer big group's for some reason. No figure would make everyone happy would they
