What do ABers make of this? If he really paid only $750 as a year's tax, does that set a good example to US citizens?

I agree with Ellipsis. Not that it matters much. But there's clearly no material difference between "So you're saying [something you aren't saying]?!" and Straw Man, which is when you argue against something the other person wasn't saying.
This thread was interesting before it got derailed by the 'so rule' - pathetic!
tamborine, I agree. Utterly pathetic.
So you're saying that people are never allowed to wander off topic? :o
The thread was over bar the shouting :D
Maybe one should avoid sophomania as much as one avoids tax.

Oh God. I thought my original question was so simple!
tamborine - // This thread was interesting before it got derailed by the 'so rule' - pathetic! //

I answered a question from a new AB'er - the de-railing is caused by elipsis' obsession with the 'Straw Man' concept which has been advised previously, and as I said, no-one is interested, but I have no control over the ensuing additions.
Come on guys, Andy would never derail a thread now would he?
Your 5 posts putting Elipsis right are quite in order, andy.

When will people stop derailing threads For Funks Sake?
Thank you roy.

Hopefully that particular issue is now laid to rest.
Mozz - // Come on guys, Andy would never derail a thread now would he? //

I don't believe that anyone would knowingly de-rail a thread, I never have, nor would I ever do so.

Of course, 'de-railment' is a matter of perspective.

I answered a new AB'er's question, and ellipsis chimed in again with the 'Straw Man' concept, which I am aware of, and which he has brought up previously.

Subsequent unwillingness to drop the subject may be construed as 'de-railing', but that is ellipsis's responsibility not mine.

I will respond to each and any post directed to me personally, and if that leads to anyone's notion that i am 'de-railing', then the need to take issue with the other party as well - it takes two to make a dialogue, which ever way it may take things.
So andy, who are you to contrive a 'so rule'? You were warned it would derail the thread, so on you went. I complained of the so rule derailment here but as youre a mod, youve ignored my complaint - so expected and a good thread ruined by you.
tamborine - // So andy, who are you to contrive a 'so rule'? //

I'm an AB'er - just like you - and i can post what I choose within Site Rules - just like you.

// You were warned it would derail the thread, so on you went. //

I don't respond well to 'warnings' - thank you.

// I complained of the so rule derailment here but as youre a mod, you've ignored my complaint //

I ignored your complaint because I don't believe it contravenes Site Rules, and apparently neither does any other Mod who has seen it.

If you are unhappy with a post, or an action or an inaction by a Moderator, use the Report Button, that's what it's there for.

// - so expected and a good thread ruined by you. //

As I have explained, the 'de-railing' was started, and continued by Ellipsis, who refused to let the 'Straw Man' issue drop, even though I advised that i understood it, and no-one was interested.

Perhaps you should re-align your ire in his direction - for a change.

Oh God.

Haha.
I did use the report button on 4 posts but no time to venture further. So I will try to include so in every further post just to annoy you.
So there andy, gotta go so I can earn some tax ;)
tambo - // So I will try to include so in every further post just to annoy you. //

Do you think I have survived every day on here for twenty years, barring holidays and illness, by being 'annoyed' by petty nonsense such as you suggest?
And you told him no-one is interested ....half a dozen times.
Spicerack - // And you told him no-one is interested ....half a dozen times. //

If Elipsis offers half a dozen posts on the subject, I will response half a dozen times.

You may interpret that as me 'de-railing' - but think about it ...
