Just discovered that come Oct 2021 our car will get a £12.50 per day charge as part of the new London Emissions regulations.

What needs bolting on to our stanard petrol Nissan to make it compliant?

nissan Tino 2004 1800cc.
if it's got a euro4 engine it'll be compliant, these were available from 2001 but not mandated until 2005. I'm guessing you've checked it against TfL's vehicle checker?

If it's not compliant it could be converted, but it's not cheap, indeed there's a petition running asking the mayor to postpone the charge until technology catches up with an inexpensive fix.

at present, on balance, probably better (given the vehicle's age) to subscribe to the mayor's scrappage scheme and buy a newer, compliant vehicle. TfL themselves offer little advice for avoiding the charge, other than "ride a bike", "get the bus" or "buy an electric car".

Thanks mushroom. Unfortunately (maybe fortunately) one of the criteria for the scrapping claim is being On benefits, and as I last claimed anything in 1965, I am probably no eligible!

Yes, the Tino has had a good run for its money, so we'll have a look to see if there are any ulez-compliant Tinos going for a grand or two.

Thought you only did a 1000 miles a year, if correct, why should that concern you, to any degree.
possibly because allen will have to pay an extra C£5k a year to have his car!

Indeed teacake (and Points for noticing!).

We live right next to the North Circular (northern boundary of the ULEZ), and several of our regular trips take us across the NC road, to podiatrists, other clinics, Park Royal hospital, to shops (Ikea, Brent Cross (a bit)), and so on, so quite a few £12.50s there.

If the 'lump' was say £500 it might be worth it. More, and mushroom's change of car would be the way.

May be the bus for those short trips then, I think that's the whole Idea of the charge?
from allen's previous posts, it sounds like but may be problematic. In addition, losing the ability to drive is a bigger milestone in someone's life than gaining it imho
sorry bus
London is very high on the list for pollution, so something needs to be done. Its not about losing the ability to drive, but cutting back were possible ( short hops) when there's other options.

Mrs A can no longer walk. I can, but only a couple of hundred yards. These days minicabs are plentiful, but Covid 19 makes them unattractive. Black cabs will come out this far, but the virus has been a bit of an excuse for ‘extras’.

Not complaining, just pointing out the position.

Thus your own car (even for a few short trips) liberates two old codgers from being stuck at home.

To repeat my old pal Ted’s advice, “Don’t get old.”
