According to this article in the Mail online, NHS workers are to get a vaccine, while ministers introduce new laws to bypass EU approval regulations – What could possibly go wrong?

Only this morning, on the BBC News ticker feed there was a claim that it’ll be late 2021 before we see a vaccine.

There is a human trial going on in Birmingham that has almost finished the first small sample human trial, add that to Oxford and London my bet would be around march, but they may offer it to NHS staff earlier to create a large subject pool before release.

But, what will the uptake be? It may be offered, but how many want to be the first to have a vaccine that appears to have been rushed through?

To be fair TTT, your link from the Independent is reporting in the MoS claim, it’s just reiterating the claim.

The wording in the OP link is carefully done so, emphasis on the ‘could’ as opposed to ‘will’.

It would be bizarre to offer a vaccine to a small section of the population before it had been given proper clearance.
I’m sure that isn’t what is meant.
NHS workers would be first though anyway presumably.
I don’t think the EU has any legislation as yet on a Covid-19 vaccine anyway so I don’t understand that bit

Perhaps it would be a start if all NHS workers were tested first. Unbelievably they are not. Then make it no test no entry to a hospital facility.

there's no EU edict on Covid-19, but the UK is (until the transition period ends) bound by law to subject any new medicine to the scrutiny of the EMA. the new law referred in the article eliminates that mandate.

Self testing may be very common with researchers, know if a couple of cases personally, a fair number anecdotally.

No, that is the standard retort to try and shut down genuine fears of a vaccine not properly tested.

Baz raises very valid points, rushing a vaccine through that is given to millions could have some very nasty repercussions in the future.

And all for a virus with a miniscule death rate.
