Afternoon all,
Watched some of the parade on TV this morning and noticed that the bass drummer within the pipes and drums had, what appeared to be, a white bearskin with a red adornment. Can anybody throw any light on this please ? Secondly, is there a difference between the side drum that a regular service drummer uses and those that are used in a pipe and drum band ? They sound very different to me - the type used by the pipe band sound a lot "crisper" - that's the only way I can describe it !! Stay safe everybody

I'm not an expert. I think the crisper sound of pipe band drummers is just down to the style of playing. Maybe the snares of the drum are adjusted differently.
