//"Leave voters were too often sneered at and Remain voters were led up the garden path with a position - of overturning the referendum result - that was never seriously achievable.
To put this aside, Leavers and Remainers need an apology."// - Yes, I doubt it'd have made much difference to the outcome but good that SKS acknowledges the error.
It's not an unreasonable nit-pick. Does Starmer accept this report yet? I'm not sure that he has, or that he will. Or even if he should, if it comes to that. No point in fighting the battle any longer, though, and the report is wider-reaching than just Brexit.
Just to add to that, Labour's policy on Brexit in 2019 was muddled and messy, but I'd need to see the report to understand more clearly why the writers think it was muddled before I agree that their conclusions should be accepted in full.
Starmer has not acknowledged anything, and he will certainly not Apologise. It was Starmer who pushed for the policy.
Not much of Labours stance at the general election made any sense. It tried to appeal to everyone, and in the end it appealed to no one. That said, I am not sure I need or want a worthless apology. I just hope the Labour Party has learnt a lesson.
The report is just part of the infighting that has blighted the party for the last 10 years.
Hardly changes the past. A party that fought against a democratically selected decision needs to do a vast amount more. The only thing they can take comfort with is the possibility of regaining lost ground eventually, mainly due to them being the only barely "credible" alternative; most other parties who proved to be anti-democratic can't expect even that while it's in living memory, as they are busted and may as well disband to form something new, in the hope that recall of their past misdeeds doesn't follow them.
