The DJ at Anfield played his hit "Careless Hands" at half time in Liverpool's match against Leeds in 1967. Leeds' goalkeeper Gareth Sprake had accidentally thrown the ball into the back of his own net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. The Liverpool fans continued to sing the song during the second half. Sprake kept the nickname throughout his career and titled his autobiography after the song.
Sad news, he was such a lovely man and brilliant entertainer. I saw him live several times in Great Yarmouth and met him a couple of times. He was so friendly and kind. Little known fact is that he quite often wrote Eric Morcambe's jibes about him.
