How Much Longer Are People Going To Meekly Roll Over And Accept These Draconian Rules?
The damage being done to our economy is incalculable yet I see people in the street being interviewed on the news saying they accept it and its nessasary and they will comply and some saying it doesn't go far enough. Do these people understand how the economy works? I seriously doubt it. The only people who dare mildly disagree are the business owners of bars and restaurants who are in real danger of having to close down permanently. When the tsunami of unemployed start rolling down the track after furlough is ended, these same people who are calling for the lock down to continue will then be blaming the government for the increase in unemployment. I really do despair.

If that happens, the economy will be devastated anyway.
The restrictions are necessary in order to prevent a worst case scenario. I trust the scientists on this over the average person.

Not everyone is in total acceptance, that's why there are occasional riots and I must admit everyone I talk to shares your views (and mine). I too worry about people losing their jobs. I've just found out that my town (Warrington) is only going into tier 2, so that means pubs and restaurants can open and provide 'substantial meals', so hopefully my Christmas dinner booking with friends is still on.
In as much as it's possible to assess this, second lockdown has probably already led to around 800-1500 fewer deaths so far than we might have had without imposing it, and I'd also estimate that introducing these measures one week earlier would have saved a further 1,000 or so. There's a lot of uncertainty here, but the simple facts are that Covid-19 does kill; it kills more people, and ruins more lives, the easier it is for the disease to spread; and, therefore, people who are calling for no control measures have to accept that they are, in effect, asking many more people to accept premature deaths in exchange for these freedoms.
No wonder we've moved up to tier 3 here, Heaton is a suburb of Newcastle which has a lot of student accommodation

The absolute best way to spread Covid is to group people of all ages including vulnerable groups together in a relatively small warm space indoors. Encourage them to talk loudly, laugh, forget for a while about social distancing.
There will be a huge price to pay in terms of excess deaths before the winter ends. That's not counting the groups who will ignore the guidelines before then, and afterwards for New Year. A few more months and we will be pretty much through this.
So for the granny on tv this morning who was going to hug her children and grandkids over the Christmas break .... Would you play Russian roulette, of course not but one of those you hug might be the one who will have to live with your death on their conscience. It's not worth it.
