There are around 26 million people in the UK aged 50 and over (which I believe is the target age group for vaccinations at least initially). This week 130,000 (0.5%) of that number were vaccinated. So, only two years of faffing about opening and closing businesses to go!
But doctors surgeries were only getting vaccines delivered on Tuesday. Its early days yet for the system to be running smoothly and (provided deliveries aren't hampered) numbers should start to increase.
And theyve only done the first of 2.
But there doing the more tricky ones such as travelling to small care homes first and havent really got up to speed yet. Will be more like a production line later
TTT says will be done by Easter. End of 2021 more likeley.
But yes social distancing and maks will be needed and some more lockdowns/restrictions of course. No politically acceptible alternative
Why are so many posts negative on AB these days. So much moaning and groaning. It's become a very depressing site unless you like quizzes and crosswords.
we'll be back to normal ish by easter, not 100% vaccinated but enough so create herd immunity. They'll also speed up the jabs too. Every surgery, hospital, clinic + other makeshift locations will be dishing it out. This is week 1, It will grow, the main obstacle is the production and distribution of the vaccines.
Indeed 3T, the storage / distribution requirements of the Pfizer vaccine have posed problems (-70c) but the two other leading vaccines are more like the flu one.
I know Emmie, but so many on here dwell on all the negatives and at any opportunity *** off those in control who are doing their very best, and think they know better. I come on far less often because I realised AB was actually adding to my depressive state.
If somebody can tell me the number of centres that will be administering the vaccine, and the average number of people per hour that each centre can inject, and the average number of hours per day that each centre will be open ... then, and only then, will I be able to tell you how long it will take to administer the vaccine.
drmorgans it is nothing like having a Flu vaccination. That takes about 5 mins in my experience. The Covid vax takes 35 minutes if everything goes smoothly. And mine did, couldn't have been done any quicker. Then of course I have to go and have the same again in 21 days, so 70 mins in total.
Ellipsis //only then, will I be able to tell you how long it will take to administer the vaccine.//
I think you would require more information than you mention e.g delays in delivery etc.
