Similar to my love/insanity post last night I suppose...
But from my early years, I never understood the point of making a legal arrangement for an emotional attachment with another person?
I'm now 54 and still fail to see why people get married unless there a religious element to it.
And isnt marriage just that...a religious element?

Not knocking marriage, just dont understand it myself.
You're either in a relationship or not.

A religious element, Nailit? Not always. I'm not fussed about a ceremony and certificate but sometimes it's a wise move to jump through hoops (certainly in some countries) for financial reasons.
And the party of course. ;-)
Because it gives both parties legal protection.
Like ummmm said. Legal protection.
Oh...I've been married 2x. First in church to keep my family happy. Second in register office. That one lasted a good deal longer...;)
people still do it, one assumes because you want to make a committment to each other, and there is the legal aspect to it to
Because I loved him and wanted to make the ultimate commitment.
Been married 24 years today
Happy Anniversary ♥
Congratulations, Martin! By god he's a tough cookie! ;-)

You celebrating?
It is a way of telling the whole world how much you love the person you are marrying.
You have already said that you don't understand being in love.
It is probably the most wonderful feeling in the world world
For us it was much the same, we were deeply in love and wanted to commit to a life together, the legal and financial side didn't become as apparent as it did when children came along.

Had Bill lived then September just gone would have been out 45th Anniversary.
Maybe they marry because they believe they love each other and want to confirm that love with a romantic ceremony. Of course, that doesn't apply to people like Melania.
Sorry 'whole'.

1) Why would you want to do that anyway?
2) For what purpose?
3) You arnt anyway, only the invited would know...not the rest of the worlds 7 billion population.
where once it was also to give legitimacy to having children. Now people have them out of wedlock and people rarely bat an eye.
Are you wanting us to convince you that we made the right choice?

I doubt any of us could satisfy your quest in understanding something you see as futile.
Thanks mamya and Gness we are off out to a restaurant

Not at all,
(not even a choice in my case, nobody wanted to be with me for life, LOL)
Just curious.
I really dont understand this thing about marriage when so many people get divorced anyway.
Happy Anniversary MartinM! It's my wedding anniversary today too but only 6th.
presumably people don't go into marriage with the idea its going to end in divorce. All relationship need work, give and take, its hard sometimes but can be very rewarding
