The Govt Handling Of Covid............
93 Answers
..............is manipulative and alarmist, meant to frighten people. And it's succeeded mainly. Back in April, the figures were the number of deaths from Covid. Then, the figures dropped in summer. When the figures started to rise again in September, we had a different interpretation. It was the number of infections that was published. That sounds more serious doesn't it? A few thousand infections but only a few deaths. Let's go down the infections route. It's more alarming. But even the death figure is inaccurate as it shows only deaths within 28 days of a positive test. That's great Mssrs Whitty and Valance! It's just what we need to frighten the people into mass inactivity. I know, I know. It hasn't worked so far and the figures are still rising but at least we're frightening the tish out of everyone aren't we?
Just call me Boris Canute. I can turn the tide.

You're not alone. I know someone else who's keeping away because of the daily doses of misery and moaning that are constantly being dished up here - in fact I post less frequently myself these days. Gloom and doom I can do without.

How do you intend address the families of the millions who have already died? Are those just acceptable collateral damage? Do you not realise how much worse it would have been had people not taken the threat seriously at all? How much worse it could still be, if it comes to that.
Doom and Gloom it is not. Realism tells us that we should face up to threats, not sweep them under the carpet, nor hide behind "cure is worse than the disease" baloney. It ain't worse for those who die from it, or those who catch it and suffer lasting damage.

13.01 You may as well have another break from it, because all you've done with that post is way over cook, what we've been asked to do. If you have little to do and you're that confident in you not catching it, hospitals are crying out for cleaners, and because you're so confident you won't have to use any of their PPE when working there.
Mine, teacake? I'm not claiming to have the answers, but it's also clear when something has stopped working.
As I said, maybe stricter rules, fines, punishments were needed.
For teenagers, uni students... offer to pay them to be tagged to stay in. It would still have saved lives and money, and perhaps been more appropriate for them than "you might die". Teenagers are invincible...
I suspect there were thousands of options, except we chose just to scare as many people as possible. Sometimes, saving lives is more important than testing how many people have the same priorities as you.

Yes, and as I've said before, you don't need 100% compliance to bring the situation under greater control. The vast majority of UK citizens will abide by the rules; set the rules sensibly, therefore, and it will be enough to change the trajectory of this. If the rules are inadequate, then that's a more significant factor than a minority of those not sticking to them.
