Twelve Republican Senators Plan To Oppose The Certification Of Biden’s Presidential Win
The Republican’s reason for opposing the certification is voter fraud that robbed Trump of a second term, despite no evidence of wide-spread voter fraud.
Political pundits have pointed out that this is a waste of time, as both houses (Senate and Representatives) must each vote with a majority to halt the certification; since the House of Representatives is controlled by Democrats there is no possibility of success.
Pundits have pointed out that this shows that democracy works in the USA – that Trump and his cronies cannot steal the election like they are in some third-world Banana Republic.
But consider for a moment that the Republicans held a majority in both Houses – then America could indeed become a country with an election process more crooked than Russia.

the idea was that anyone on AB wishing to bring a case against the President of the greatest nation on earth or his earthly minions ( the federal govt that is!) - they might need the wording.
But honestly the underlying thread ( or logical argument if that it be) is such nonsense that it degeats the object
as ever the overall argument is
1. he greatest man on earth won the election only the numbers are completely wrong and show a thumpnig loss
2. this in itself shows election fraud on a grand scale howsoever caused
3.this case has never been heard in full and when it is, everyone will find the evidence overwhelming
4. no peeping: the evidence in full comes later
5. bring on the vote!

the procedure - last done in 1877 - is that you need a pair ( one from senate and one from the house) and they 'object'
then they organise a 2 h debate and you vote
majority needed in both houses and there is not a hope in the house of representatives
and since there are six swing states 'en prix' my dears,
they cd do this six times
it will be a long day said one commentator
Trump remains head of the reps and there is no way to change him. they say - but I dont think that can be true
and there are six senators and representatives who owe their career to him - and wow! see a future in him

To my mind the Republican’s have a binary choice; ditch Trump and concentrate on their traditional values, or continue to slavishly follow Trump’s twitter-feed.
Many elected Republican politicians are choosing the latter option, believing that he can assure their continued ‘snouts in the trough’ – having gained over 75 million votes in the presidential election.
To those of you who believe that backing Trump would be a losing strategy for the Republican Party – Biden is inheriting a difficult situation with the Covid virus rampant, the economy tanking with millions unemployed and the national debt growing at an alarming rate.
If in four year time things don’t improve, the Republicans will win the election no matter who their presidential nominee is.

I don't think America's system approaches Russia's where they've apparently put in place a system to fix the voting so that it doesn't appear to be obviously fraudulent! That is a league of its own.
What is evident about the American system is that it is open, regardless of the bizarre behaviour of some of its polticians.
Never mind the 12 senators, what about the 140 congressmen?
They claim they aren't trying to overturn the election result, which they won't of course. That way some of them can keep in with Trump, or more relevantly perhaps, his "core" vote

I think when it is all over they will say
the system of elections is meant to work like this ....
Electoral courts hadnt been used since 1867 in the Bham case - where they found 26% postal votes were fraudulent. and Lutfer rahman was out!
when Lord The Hoffman er failed to declare an interest
they just said in the House of Lords - we will hear the case again
( in relation to the General Pinochet case – now the standard example of what went wrong when a judge in the House of Lords – Lord Hoffman – failed to declare an interest.
so various waves may hit the Ship of State which eventually rights itself ( Antigone)

Khandro,
There are tens of thousands of polling sites in the US and not one piece of credible evidence of voter fraud has been found. Over 70 court hearings have listened to allegations and none have been proven.
That is not to say there has not been attempts to influence the vote. In the last 4 years Trump has closed 1,688 Polling Stations, mainly in black and latino areas.

That's interesting do you have a source that you could recommend? I don't need a link just a source, if I have that I can find it. I have had a look but can only find polling stations that have been burned down by those very people. But not nearly 1,700. Ta.

While you are at it can you tell us why Trump, if it was him, would do this? (from your link) Then tell us when the stations were closed.
//Arizona, another state with a burgeoning Latino population at 30 per cent, has meanwhile been identified as having the most widespread polling closures, with 320 closures divided up across nearly every county. The county with the most closures, Maricopa County, saw 171 closures in a densely populated area with a 31 per cent Latino population. The state has also been considered reliably Republican, but saw a Democrat win statewide office for the first time in decades in 2018.//
