I don't believe there is a need to show such graphic images on the news - verbal reporting is quite sufficient.

I clearly remember a psychologist advising on the constant re-showing of film footage of the 911 tower impacts, and saying that it was actually bad for people to re-see such devastating footage over and over again - and the trend for graphic footage has only increased since then.

It panders to bad desires in terms of being seen as 'first with the news' and it speaks directly to the difference between what is in the public interest, and what interests the public.

Mobs and rioters are uncontrolled. They kill a cop because he represents authority that they are reacting against.

If any further evidence was needed that America is broken, is the news that people are being identified from the published pictures and film. But rather embarrassingly, some of those named and shamed of the deadly attack on the Capitol turn out to be serving Police Officers. Several States are investigating and sackings are expected.
