'Travers Christmas Humphreys, QC was an English barrister who prosecuted several controversial cases in the 1940s and 1950s, and later became a judge at the Old Bailey. He also wrote a number of works on Mahayana Buddhism and in his day was the best-known British convert to Buddhism. Wikipedia'
He was also a founder of the Buddhist society
https://www.thebuddhistsociety.org/ which still thrives today & his book from the 50's 'Buddhism' is one of the earliest books on the subject in English & I believe is still in print.
With reference to the OP & Karma; when as a judge he convicted an offender at the Old Bailey he would would say before passing sentence, "I want you to be quite clear, you are not being punished FOR what you have done, you are being punished BY what you have done."
