made, surely it wasn't built overnight
I am against the waste of the project

ToraToraTora, lol swampy effluence bypass, take the hard shoulder.
I don't like people trying to bypass the democratic system. I wouldn't want pro-HS2 doing the same thing as Swampy and co. They lost - get over it.
Was there a democratic system, atheist? I didn't get to vote.
pixie374, so you think the public should have a vote on all legislature
mmm we would be in knots, still living in the stone age.
Pixie, did you vote on Swampy and co? By democratic system I mean that the government of the day (voted in) made a decision, and I think it went through the courts etc, and eventually got the go-ahead.
Democratic, surely is what most people want? If they were that confident, why not a referendum on something so big? If people aren't given a choice and disagree... they can only complain and peacefully protest, which is what is happening here. Not violence or riots, just protests.
Fender, so-rule proven again...
Pixie, surely we can't have a referendum on everything? A referendum on improving infrastructure? Brexit was bad enough!
Not everything. But clearly this was going to cause mayhem and be hugely unpopular. Like Brexit.
pixie374, brexit is already paying benefits, look at the eu fiasco over the vaccine..tom many chiefs and not enogu indians.
Pixie; this is nothing like Brexit. England's countryside is man-made - think of what the canals and railways and roads have done - not to mention the farming practices. We can't freeze everything. Windmills were hated at first because they were modern high-tech which took work from the water-mills, now they are protected. Aeolians are objected to because they don't look nice or they kill birds or bats - they are modern windmills. The planet needs modern solutions to old problems - listed buildings shouldn't be allowed to screw up the future because solar panels aren't authentic. Our future is in the future, not the past.
Fender, don't be disrespectful to enogu indians!
I know, fender. You're taking it too literally, I meant the principle rather than the results.
Our future will soon be the past. I can't see how destruction of the country is looking any further ahead than the next year or so.
There should be a group of people that remain in power for 10 years or more say, for the environment, because MPs only think 5 years ahead.
pixie374, there is a good reason for 4yrs? complacency comes to mind
and pet projects etc, look what bliar did...just how much did it cost the uk to join in the iraq war in cash and lives, and for what..
Pixie, a thread of railway line is not destruction of the country (perhaps you meant countryside). When I dig my garden I am destroying the countryside; but I'm not, really. There is more destruction of the country from petrol vehicles than from electric trains. Do you know what percentage of UK land will be covered by HS2? (I don't know either, but it is, I'm sure, minuscule)
Atheist, people have already been forced to move, ancient woods, fields destroyed. Nothing we can ever get back.
The whole world always seems very "here and now". There seems no concern that humans (and animals, if we're lucky) might still be living here, in 100, 200 years time. We just merrily go on blitzing. How long for
Until there's nothing left to blitz unfortunately pixie.

Greedy mankind.
Seems so....
pixie374, it's called investment of the future, less we like the flintstones...yabba dabba do.
It is worth knowing. If you form a "protest" group, camp out and make a little enclave for yourself, preferably on public or local authority land in London. You will be given enough time to dig a 100ft tunnel, enough leeway to dispose of the spoil, and the opportunity to stuff it with explosives and blow to smithereens a target of your choice.
