Yes. 'Economy shrinks when everything is shut for a year and no-one is allowed to go anywhere' shocker.
What gets me is the way the newsreaders report it like it's a massive surprise that no-one saw coming..
they should obviously have said "The economy has shrunk but we're not going to tell you how much because it'll only upset the snowflakes, and really, who needs facts anyway"
And where do these experts find the GNP for the UK 300 years ago?
A little bit beyond 300 years, Samuel Pepes diaries I suspect ;-)
If they didn't report it, you can bet that one of the AB Angry Mob would be posting "why is nobody reporting this? It's an outrageous cover-up!!!"
you sure that means 300 years?
the surprising news is that it's only shrunk by 10%!
i found a link, yes indeed 300 years, how bizarre.

They did add a little detail, that manufacturing was close to its previous level but that hospitality and live entertainment had borne the brunt, which again isn't a surprise, with pubs, restaurants, theatres, cinemas all closed.
Because it has .
// And where do these experts find the GNP for the UK 300 years ago?//

now that is a very interesting question and there is an answer (*) (@)(~)

- someone went around and asked everyone what they did and how much ( no, not how much they did but what moolah dey go from it yeah?). Ay was at a book auction where I bought a first edition Grays Anatomy ( my mother's teacher always had one, Dame josephine Barnes: and I formed an opinion that I wd have one too one day. It sets you back around five thou. Peanuts compared to Bronte or Austen) and I turned to a punter and said show and tell.
And he said the first GDP 1665 ( me: blimey (christ) really ) William Petty went around the country and asked everyone what they produced and how much. He wrote the book I have bought.
said the first punter
And I turned and said to the other side: you what you bought den?
and he said - the first newspaper account of Waterloo ....1815 that is!
And I said " yes I know waterloo was 1815"
an he said thousands dont
and I said o god this is a dream sequence from Blackadder innit
and he said no no - you have spent the moolah on Gray you think you have spent.....

Mods are free to spike this contribution on the grounds that it is totally inappropriate to the tone of the rest of the thread.

(*) cue "foo what dat den" x 1000 as a thousand or more ABers doubt the very idea and come out with their fave phrase, showing doubt and yet a reasonable willingness to be educated
(@) this is the afternoon for learning things you lucky lucky people (thx arthur askey) - French Empire, Japanese Empire and now this!
(~) someone added it up silly ! one william petty oi fink - ter daah

In fact, William was the first person to find a method to measure GDP, find the true importance of banks and money supply, and why and how unemployment affects the economy. Back in the 16th century, landowners in England faced high taxes.
What?? your joking, with all the face masks being sold?
Car sales have plummeted over 12 months.
60,000 less sales than the year previous. Lowest new car registrations for 50 years.
