....but it's underpinned by barbarity. Dunno how they have the cheek to keep telling us what a wonderful tourist destination it is! Ask this guy

not a place i fancy ever going.
Me and Mrs Z have been once. And once is enough. Nothing outwardly hostile or dangerous, just an 'atmosphere' about the place. It's a place which is fantastic if your between 28 and 42 and a multi millionaire.
I've never understood why people would want to holiday there anywhere. My mind's picture of the place is the Sahara Desert with lego ;-)
Gold plated lego, tho! ;-)
I spent a two night stopover there once. It is a bloody awful place. Tacky, full of "bling" (like most places in the Middle East) and ideal for TOWIE types. Best destination for "Soshul Meeja influencers" to go and do their important work. Long may it remain that way and everybody else with a bit of taste can give it a wide berth.
You're digging out old news today, four years old. I wouldn't go to Dubai
There was a documentary a few years ago about the treatment of East Asian builders who were employed to help build Dubai. Turns out that many were not paid and some committed suicide rather than go back to their families empty handed.

I would never go there.

The pub was er Rock Bottom and a louche well known haunt
and the stroker would KNOW that the locals can go up to any policeman and say arrest this man, and they will

given that, hip stroker er banged against a local and refused to apologise ....

Treatment of East Asian builders who were employed to help build Dubai. Turns out that many were not paid - the egyptian labourers got paid ( the ones on the archeological site, er in Dubai, that or be a waiter ) - you had to live in a portakabin ( no not alone) and god knows where you all went to the bog
if Harry hadnt come along demanding Freedom
I wd have sympathy for rich girl who just wants to have fun

LB, same one as featured in TTT link....
I got on well 2ith the Arabs, respect their custom whilst on holiday and they will respect you.
Bare chested males are not appreciated in the souks and restaurants in Dubai.......Benidorm etc al is not appreciated.appreciated in Dubai.
Drunks, bawdy behaviour as we see in European resorts is not appreciated.
Hotels are superb ,luxurious and clean.
The Arab response to "problems" is to lock EVERYBODY up and sort it out later.
The sands, sea and respect is admirable...........if you behave yourself.
Emirates is a superb airline.
One ofthe best holidays we have ever had.
Caution against knee jerk responses is advisable :

I used to be there quite often in the late 70's early 80's passing through joining and leaving oil tankers. It was fine then so far as I could tell, relaxed, friendly and safe. I suspect that the current Ruler is trying to reverse that relaxation and I further suspect its under pressure from the other Gulf states...although it may not have taken much pressure.
Not somewhere I'd ever consider visiting, for a number of reasons.
Diplomatic problem resolved - Queenie offers Sheikh Muhammed...."My boy, my son marries your daughter and they shack up together out of sight.....problem solved for both of us."
I've read many books about the barbaric ways that still go on in the UAE and Saudi , royal Princesses who've escaped to other countries, about how the Royal Princes use young Asian girls in service at the palaces, as sexual pleasures just for them, male children are pampered whilst females aren't , they have to walk in the shadows of their brothers, fathers and Uncles
