Cause Of Death Covid Not Necessarily
49 Answers
My husband who some of you knew as The Mexican, lost his fight with Heart Failure in the early hours of St Patricks Day. The Doctors want to put cause of death as COVID! Having been admitted with heart failure 3 times this year, it was only this last time, he was admitted as positive. I am trying to have the cause as Heart Failure with COVID contributing. I don't want my husband to be just a statistic .

Some on here don't like it when others complain about covid being put as the cause of death when it clearly wasn't !! I was come down on like a ton of bricks from the know it alls on here when I commented how my friend was annoyed and upset when it was put on her Mum's death certificate, despite the fact that she did NOT die from it.
So sorry about your husband x

I'm really sorry to hear this, my sincere condolences and hope you can fight and get your way. There have been several threads on here for people upset that relatives' deaths have been put down as Covid when it was probably something else. I hope those ABers who have said somewhat dismissively what difference does it make read this and perhaps have more sympathy and understanding of those in your situation.
I am sorry for your loss. Your husband isn't a statistic, He's a beloved person. Can I point out that what is put on death certificates is not really relevant so far as statistics go? Deaths are now reported when "dying within 28 days of a positive test" Its not 100% accurate but don't see how any collection system could be. For every person who is wrongly recorded as dying from covid, there will be one person whose death was hastened by covid but whose test was 29 or 30 days ago. I really do understand your grief and anger.
I am sorry to hear this
and sorry for your loss

Ken 9.54 is quite correct, from birth to death, we are all statistics.
no - Ken and Sqad are quite wrong: one death is a tragedy, a million deaths are a statistic ( Stalin)
dont be careful ( burl-shirl) - if people dont like what you say so blooody what?
if you don't have a Death cert - ring up the doctor doing it and say that since he was positive within 28 d of death they should record it as no 2
if you DO have a death cert then either - ring up the coroner and ask what to do and mention that causes of death here is not as happened and you think that is against the law
or
when you register the death say to the registrar
he didnt die from this - he died fom covid and they didnt record it and its not right
and that ..... is just about all you can do....
(I ran to the registrar with both my parents death certificates ( er twenty y apart that is!) and didnt bother with any of this and got it processed as quickly as poss. So clearly I was difft, anyway that is what you do)

Hello Squad, The reason that I am asking for the wording to be changed, is having watched Philip( The Mexican) suffer from Heart Failure and the fact that 3 times this year he was admitted to hospital with it, it was only this time on being admitted was he positive. He caught it just before he was discharged on the previous stay and being negative the day before. So for me, it is important that it says Heart Failure and COVID. Maybe it is when it is to do with the person that one loves beyond anything, it feels extremely important.
I loved my husband beyond anything and still do. I knew he was dying. Several things were killing him and to me it didn't matter what went on the certificate. It didn't change the fact of his loss of life and my loss of him. I know from experience though that feelings when a loved one dies are not rational and if this is something that feels important to you then we are unlikely to change your feelings. Please do just keep in mind that there may be nothing that you can do, or you will achive the change and he will still be as dead. At some point you will have to put this down.
Charity, I quite understand your position but legislation brought about by this pandemic has been implemented to indicate to the public the seriousness of the disease and its rapid transmission.
Figures may well have been exaggerated....1,500 a day instead of 1,450....does it really matter when the big picture is that of ICU's packed with unconscious loved ones , tubes down their throats and hooked up to ventilators.
That is the big picture.
My only criticism of a cause of death on a death certificate would be if there was medical negligence issue, otherwise, I wouldn't be concerned.
You clearly have a different agenda and I appreciate that.
