What idiots get sucked in to this reality show fiasco?

The prog buys a house at auction & gives 2 strangers a budget and 6 months to do it up and sell it. They get to keep any profit it makes but in most cases the profit is miniscule (they could have made more from a part-time jib delivering pizza!) or even a loss.

Mercifully they don't get charged for any loss! But they have flogged their guts out for 6 months doing dirty, stressful, hard labour for very little reward. On the one today they made about £1500 each.

Perhaps it is more about giving people the confidence and, maybe, a bit of cash to actually do it all themselves for a property that will be theirs.

Is that back on? I saw a couple of episodes a few months ago.
One chap disappeared after a few weeks and left the woman to do all the work.
Another episode the house looked great when they'd 'finished'. The bathroom fittings were in place but not plumbed in, the kitchen work tops weren't fixed in place and the boiler was just hung on the wall - not connected to anything.
In both episodes they walked away with nothing

I find it frustrating when an overly optimistic estate agent gives a high valuation...and then the price needs dropping by a lot in order for them to sell.

I'm sure the contestants know the premise of the show before they go on.

These are repeats. Today's sold with £9,000 profit for each of them. But, there was a catalogue of hidden problems that needed fixing...leaving them with 1,500 each.

From what I've seen of estate agents on Homes Under The Hammer their chief talent seems to be instantly spotting the stray cobweb when entering any given room.

Open door, look up, fix gaze.
