Does Iran seriously think they will ever be allowed to build a nuclear weapon?

Theland: "Ultimately they rely on God to step in and defend them. " - then gawd elp them, they rely on themselves and the US me old china!
Question Author
I see jno, still hasn't returned to this thread after his earlier insistence that they haven't pledged to wipe Israel off the map, subsequently shown to be incorrect, oh dear!
Ah, the school bully waiting at the gates.

How mature.
Sort this out behind the bike shed, LOL
TTT at his best, rule Britannia, etc, etc.
Hope you're quaking in yer boots Jno.
And while you're spouting your usual garbage sitting behind your computor screen TTT, who is going to stop Iran building whatever they want to build?
C'mon impress us with your superior knowledge
I certainly would not want to take any chances if I was Israel, or indeed anyone who deplores the idea of nuclear proliferation, but I don't think the Iranian leader at the time actually said "Iran would wipe Israel off the face of the earth" as is popularly reported.
In 2005 the remark was made that if Israel attacked Iran it would face annihilation, or words to that effect and in the video link above the same threat is made against the US, in the spirit of retaliation. This threat has been made many times, and in a way it is understandable. Donald Trump said pretty much the same thing about N Korea.

1ozzy: "And while you're spouting your usual garbage sitting behind your computor screen TTT," - I have spouted nothing, merely reported what the position is, from Dinnerjacket promising to wipe Israel off the map to the current news story. "who is going to stop Iran building whatever they want to build?
C'mon impress us with your superior knowledge " - no superior knowledge needed. As already stated on this thread, Israel and the US and probably the rest of the civilised world will not allow Iran to build a nuclear weapon. Comprende?

ich, "but I don't think the Iranian leader at the time actually said "Iran would wipe Israel off the face of the earth" as is popularly reported. " - see the YT video above at 21:24, here is the translation: //Israel will soon disappear.........this origin of corruption will soon be wiped off the earth's face" // - ok for the sake of pedantry he does not use the exact words but I'd say the intention is very clear. Clear enough for jno to skulk off at any rate.
Question Author
if dinnerjacket's proclamation is not now Iranian policy I look forward to the announcement. Until then that's what we must assume is their intention.
It is Hamas not Iran who have vowed to wipe out Israel off the map, as outlined in their 'covenant' :
https://fas.org/irp/world/para/docs/880818a.htm
god does not look after Israel the US does with the billions of $'s a year it pumps in and personally i prefer Iran and it people (Not its regime) over Israel any day
Question Author
khandro, see the video at 21:24, that is the president of Iran saying that Israel should be wiped from the map. No one has questioned it's authenticity.
Question Author
TBF Hamas probably said it too.
“ ok for the sake of pedantry he does not use the exact words”

Lol of course it’s not the exact words.
It’s not the wording in any case that counts it’s the context: I’m not defending such bellicose ranting but this sort of stuff is tossed out ad nauseam and not only by Iran.
TTT Ahmadinajad has long gone (2013) & was a complete radical fruitcake, he didn't reflect the views of mainstream Iranian policy & wasn't re-elected. I seem to remember him waiting for -or maybe thinking he was- a new messiah.
Question Author
...so you agree he said that Israel should be wiped off the map?
Question Author
khandro: "TTT Ahmadinajad has long gone (2013) & was a complete radical fruitcake" - which is a desirable trait in that region.
"he didn't reflect the views of mainstream Iranian policy & wasn't re-elected." - I don't remember any sort denouncement of his view from the subsequent leadership. Are you saying that Iran no longer wants to wipe Israel off the map? If so they'd do well to pipe up, perhaps Israel won't knacker them so much going forward.
Question Author
yes naomi, still the Islamic apologists are in denial.
Is there any possibility that Hamas could wipe out Israel? Did TTT object to USA threats to destroy N Korea? There's a lot of shouting goes on in the world, but it's similar to gorillas' chest-beating; often designed to intimidate so as to avoid conflict. Of course there are some people who look forward to a big battle for political or religious reasons, people who think that they will come out of an 'armaggedon' OK. But I think Hamas is too weak to destroy Israel.
