Would it be such a great loss to England if Scotland decided to leave the union - dependant on the withdrawal deal
I suspect there will be an exodus from north of the border to the remainder of the Uk

Of course there should be a newer vote on the dissolution of the Union. But it is a vote that must be taken by everyone in it. When the Act O Union was formed in 1707 there were many in England and Wales besides Scotland who were not in favour of it. Boris should agree that there will be a referendum again, but this time with all the peoples that it affects having there say so. Since when did the Scots believe that only they had the right, or will, to sever the common bonds? Talk about selfish. I am sure that by now more people in the U.K. would agree with the first miniature that the time is ripe to go our own ways. Or is it more like the stroppy teenager who likes to threaten to leave home if not allowed to make boastful cacophony, but runs to social services if kicked out for being a pain in the arris? Make the referendum happen, but make it happen across the Kingdom.
If the prevailing opinion of this site is any sort of psephological barometer, I couldn't agree more!
YMB, do you have a link to a UK Government document, issued prior to the Brexit referendum, detailing the proposals from the EU?
Did you insist on the folk in France or Germany having a vote in the Brexit referendum?
If the English want to leave the UK, go for it, lobby your local MP!
Brexit was bad enough,Scexit is the worst of all nightmares.Hope you have a big enough mansion down in Engerrland,Corby for all us Scots fleeing from Wee Burneys dictatorship.
Togo's right. The UK is a homogenous, democratic unity of nations. Scotland cannot unilaterally vote to leave. That would be anti-democratic. All parts of the UK (one nation remember) would need to vote - otherwise it is a local poll. From what I have seen and can work out, only about 1/3 of voting age adults in Scotland voted for a party which supports independence. Even given that, Ms. Sturgeon is recorded as saying just before the election that a vote for the SNP is not a vote for independence. I have seen and heard the footage. Wish I could do links.

In other words. It would be a sad loss - hurtful and unnecessary - but far more of a loss for Scotland because I think we all know now that the EU would enforce a hard border, with huge impacts on Scottish trade. The EU is also unlikely to welcome a 'country' which is not a net contributor - and without UK contributions to the Scottish economy Scotland would become a minor player needing handouts. Only value being to inconvenience UK.

I think that the Border Counties would have a good case for staying in the UK. How small voting-rights do we go down to?
good luck with this post, I'm still waiting for someoen to answer these very pertinent questions: https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1750978-3.html
ynnafymmi: "Brexit was bad enough,Scexit is the worst of all nightmares.Hope you have a big enough mansion down in Engerrland,Corby for all us Scots fleeing from Wee Burneys dictatorship." - I asked that yesterday, point 4.
TORATORATORA, why are you so concerned about it anyway?

Have you bothered to read any of the document I posted a link to the other day?
After independence Scotland the new East Germany,Tora?
I six-hundred-plus page document may be all well and good, but the most important question is only four words - Can they afford it?

I am by no means an expert, but surely Scotland lacks the basic financial resources to stand alone?

I am happy to be corrected if I am in error.
ynnafymmi: "After independence Scotland the new East Germany,Tora?" - I fear that East Germany would look like Monaco compared to what stays in Scotland. Half of them will move to England in the interim period between vote and implementation. There'll be no one left to tax.
AH: " six-hundred-plus page document may be all well and good, but the most important question is only four words - Can they afford it?" - if such a document exists why can't the Bravehearts extract the answers to my questions from it?
This is one more in a list of AB threads which all drip with condescension, arrogance and more against/toward Scots and Scotland. I don't recall seeing any thread relating to Scottish matters which does not descend into that.
Where are they going to move to, TTT? I thought there was a serious housing shortage and the ones they are building are not exactly cheap.
that's up[ to them ummmm, they'll buy/rent as they do now, probably pushing house prices higher in England and through the floor in Scotland. There'll be a long time between the vote to leave the UK and the border going up, plenty of time for refugees to stream south.
//The UK is a homogenous, democratic unity of nations.//

It has been so since before most of what those in Europe now call themselves, and certainly before there was a German State. But we have the loud nuisance insisting that the EUSSR should be telling us what to think, and whether we were entitled to have a choice of our own. We have been a United Kingdom for over 300 years and if we are to end that we should all be involved. Not the French, or the Germans, who have both spent most of that time trying to stab us in the back, or murder us in our beds. When we have not been defending ourselves from them, we have wasted blood and spirit keeping them from murdering each other, and we still have sly fifth columnists advocating that the EUSSR should be steering our destiny. This is our argument alone, we all have the right to be involved. The referendum, if that is what the Scots want, should be taken amongst us all.
If you can't be bothered to click on the link and read the document, I can't be bothered to help you in your quest.
