This has been happening for years. The Israelis have such a good defence system it very rarely causes much damage on their side either but a lot on the Palestinian side often with loss of life.

i confess after watching the news, i don't really understand the matter in hand, though i guess its Palestinians want their land, so do the Israelis, and never the twain shall meet, ?

So where is god in all this? Bearing in mind this is his holy place you would think it would be the most peaceful place on earth.

as i said its not a conflict i know a fantastic amount about. I only know people are getting killed, that's not right is it.

The land was shared between many faiths until 1948 though, when it got the name. Othodox Jews don't even recognise it as Israel even to this day.

emmie the Orthodox Jews always said they wouldn't recognise the name until the second coming of the lord. Don't know these days if it has changed but when I worked in the area they also didn't serve in the armed forces even though there is conscription for most Israelis.

so orthodox Jews aren't going to call it Israel nor join up in the Israeli army.... the second coming isn't coming, so they have no hope.

Yes. I believe the French resistance encountered similar problems when fighting an illegally occupying force. (Not sure that anyone referred to a Germans as their neighbours, though).

That’s misleading. You’re talking about Haredi Jews who make up only 12% of the population of Israel. They are not alone in considering themselves Orthodox.

As unsavoury as it may be for some to acknowledge the Palestinians have a valid grievance. They occupied the land that is now called Israel for over 2000 years and were unceremoniously booted out of their homes in favour of Jewish settlers - and it’s still happening. That said, their objections are futile and in the current political climate I personally would far rather see the Jews in control of that area than anyone else.

Agree with Naomi, the British enclaved the land of Israel in 1947, it was never going to be that Arab and Jew lived as peaceable neighbours with each other

I think the conflict is a matter of the combination of cultural traits and a strong sense of history.

If you take a cultural trait involving a tendency to believe that violence in defence of your people is not only right, but actually desireable, and add in a sense of history that has been handed down for generations, you get adults who have grown up hearing daily about the injustices visited on their ancestors by the people in the region next door.

That means a very short step to visiting the kind of violence on them that you have been educated to believe can, and will be visited on you, unless you do something practical to defend the rights of your people.

That - in a simplistic, but none the less valid scenario, encapsulates the conflict in the Middle East.
