KFC employed black actors in a recent advert and following three complaints has been cleared of perpetuating negative ethnic stereotypes.

Advertisers really are treading on eggshells. No pleasing some.

no one can't please some, but i have to say in this instance i wholeheartedly agree, its negative in the extreme, i thought on first seeing it that someone will complain over the stereo typing of black people and lo and behold they have. i didn't like the ad by the way, not at all. have you seen it?
Question Author
No, I haven't emmie. I record everything I want to watch and zoom through the adverts so I rarely see any.
Three complaints.
its just so stereo typical, two black men go into chicken shop, cue hip hop music, then their legs turn into cartoons of chicken, its bizarre.
3 vegetarians who dislike Hip Hop, who knew?
i admit if there were only three complaints then ok, but its just so sub standard as an ad, its sort of saying all black men eat KFC.
i don't watch that much tv i confess, but i found this one an irritant more than anything, so switch off or more likely ignore it.

The fact that this was investigated after only three complaints is the point of the thread. Looking for something to complain about seems to be quite fashionable now. Shame those who deliberately make waves are taken so seriously.
Better than yodelling you pizza order IMV.
I'm not one so it is not my place to answer. If you genuinely want to know I doubt AB is the place for it, maybe ask people who are from an ethnic background.
What a waste of a post. 3 yes 3 complaints. LOL.
Ah, the question seemed to be about what ethnic minorities wanted, and according to this- not much.
I'm not sure why or whether they investigate every single complaint.
Fried chicken is commonly associated with the black population of the southern USA. So using black actors was a given I suppose. Presumably if they thought it offensive they wouldn't have done it.

Rather a waste of time and money, anneasquith.
Hopefully, this has only copied the link, and not the whole thing. ASA can act with one complaint. You can complain about them too, if you disagree.

I think most people are aware of that.
Good. It's a shame you can't give yourself BA, for your very honest //Looking for something to complain about seems to be quite fashionable now//.
It all sounds rather pathetic to me. Three complains? I expect the average episode of Thomas the Tank Engine gets that. We're English, we like to complain.

I will add, that although it probably wasn't intentional from the OP, the thread title is a bit misleading. It's not "ethnic minorities" it's three *** stirring people.
... whose ethnicity isn't even given.
Am I missing the bit in the article that states it was EM that complained?
