We can't go on like we are, time to face reality and accept that people die, a fact of life I'm afraid.

//Just a little bit more patience should see us win this battle.//

I'm afraid, sunk, you seem to be of the same mindset as many others. This "battle" will not be won. All we can do is to accommodate the virus. This means minimising the collateral damage that is being done to the economy and people's (non-Covid) health and wellbeing. At present that is not being done. At present, depending on which figures you use, Covid is responsible for at most one in a hundred deaths (from all causes). That may rise (it almost certainly will from time to time) but it has to be accepted. My fear is that the government has adopted a "zero Covid" strategy. Such a strategy is pure fantasy but many of the population seem to think it is achievable. It's not.
They're saying that the number of cases is rising, well that doesn't surprise me at all. Where I live near in the North West, there are three covid testing stations within a five minute walk, if you are testing more people you will get more positive results.
// Why am I still wearing a mask after inoculation? //

because all the jabs do is stop you getting sick. they don't stop you being infected, they don't stop you being infectious.

we may well be stuck with the mask mandate forever.
the vaccine is reducing the effect of COVID-19 to the level of the common cold, itself a Coronavirus, and we never bothered with masks for that. Our biggest problem will be the THB once all the sensible people have been vaccinated.
///... I don't know the figures but I would wager that ... ///

This is just typical of how unsubstantiated "facts" that are frequently used by those desperate to support a false hypothesis.

In other words,"I've got a hunch which must be right because it supports my bigoted views".
canary: Try Quoting the full sentence: "I don't know the figures but I would wager that thousands are dying from non COVID things but those figures are not headlining." - ok over to you, please prove that wrong. From what the judge has said on several threads 99% of deaths are from something other than COVID-19 so I don't think my sentence here is un reasonable. I doubt you'll return to this thread now so bye, enjoy your own bigotry.
Sunk "We are in exactly the same position as we were in October"

No we aren't - we didn't have mass vaccination in October.
sunk: "Sunk "We are in exactly the same position as we were in October" - well if there was an award for most ridiculous answer that's won it! You're not an anti vaxer by any chance are you?
ToraToraTora,
Over 40 million have been vaccinated. If it were the answer, why are cases rising again.

The figures are at the same level as they were last October when you posted this…

https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1721452-2.html

In 2020
Sept 4th - 1,900 daily cases.
October 4th - 8,000 daily cases.
January 8th - 68,000 daily cases.

2021
May 4th - 1,900 daily cases.
June 11th - 8,100 daily cases.

We do not want to follow last years pattern.

January 8th - 68,000 daily cases.

2021

You missed a few bits off:

Sept 4th - 1,900 daily cases. 10 Deaths. 788 people in hospital. Nil Vaccinations.

October 4th - 8,000 daily cases (+320%). 49 deaths (+390%). 2,896 people in hospital (+267%). Nil vaccinations.

January 8th - 68,000 daily cases (+750%). 1,325 deaths (+2,500%). 33,686 people in hospital (+1,060%). c.2.5m vaccinations.

2021
May 4th - 1,900 daily cases. 4 Deaths. 1,292 people in hospital. 50.6m vaccinations.

June 11th - 8,100 daily cases (+325%). 17 deaths (+325%). 1,089 people in hospital (-18.6%). 70.2m vaccinations.

So, a 325% increase in infections reflected by an 18% decrease in the numbers in hospital (compared to a 267% increase reflected in a similar growth in infections last year).

//We do not want to follow last years pattern.//

I think there’s little chance of that. And there’s little chance of this lunacy ending any time soon whist the salient numbers are ignored in preference to simply looking at the infections.

Prof. Ferguson said last year that he was amazed at how compliant the population was at the start of lockdown. Well they were scared witless - more than once - by him and his colleagues who were given unfettered airtime by the government. This is still going on (witness yesterday’s Press Conference). It needs to stop and the government needs to wrest control of governance from unelected scientists whose remit is too narrow for them to form an objective opinion on the problem as a whole.
People forget, no economy = no expensive NHS.

Also for all the big patrons of DFS on here retired it may also mean no more pensions and certainly no more triple locks etc.

Many are struggling, time that fat lying bumbling oaf in No10 grew a pair.
sunk: "Over 40 million have been vaccinated. If it were the answer, why are cases rising again." - gawd elp us! The vaccine stops the virus getting hold, it stops the symptoms and aids the body in fighting it off. it does not stop the virus infecting, like every vax from the past.
"The figures are at the same level as they were last October when you posted this…" - err no the current rate of death is 66 in a week, in october it was hundreds.
It's not like every vax. It's unusual. Most do stop people getting the illness, this more reduces symptoms. You can still get it and pass it on.
oh I see sunk is cherry picking the number of cases, IRRELEVANT, it's hospitalisations and deaths that matter and they are vastly down due to the vaccination program. If you cannot see that there is nothing between your ears.
pixie: "It's not like every vax. It's unusual. Most do stop people getting the illness" - No, vaccinations are like having a very good defence that fights off the initial infection so it get's no chance to gain a foothold but it does still infect the body however briefly until the immune system fights it off.
Facemasks serve no purpose except to be theraputic and make people think they are preventing the spread. During the first State Control last year, facemasks were not compulsory and few people were wearing them. The figures dropped right down and we had a decent summer. So facemasks had no effect. Young people were not to blame either because as the infections were rising, all schools, colleges and universities were closed. The reason for the rise in infections and the imposition of SC2 is one that, as I've said before, dare not even be mentioned, and is the same reason for the rise at the moment. Look at the areas where the infections were at their worst last year, then look at the areas where the infections are at their worst this year. They are the same. It's the same people. Those where 3 generations live closely together in small terraced houses. What is everyone wondering about? Those people are to blame for the spread, so at least now you'll know where to look when we get another surge after this one has subsided.
here's how the small pox one works:
https://www.fda.gov/vaccines-blood-biologics/vaccines/acam2000-smallpox-vaccine-questions-and-answers
Note the phrase "The vaccine stimulates a person's immune system to develop antibodies and cells in the blood and elsewhere that can then help the body fight off a real smallpox infection if exposure to smallpox ever occurs."
Yes, this one reduces symptoms- which is why cases are high, but not so lethal in vaccinated people.
If you have an MMR say, you are exceptionally unlikely to pass it on to someone else. That's a different level.
