Unfortunately politicians will never see it that way. They see the multitudinous layers of so-called government and other political positions as ideal opportunities for further employment when they are slung out of their latest position. Hence elected mayors, police and crime commissioners, local government, devolved government and so on. The State will never shrink whilst politicians are the only people who can do the shrinking.
