People returning to the UK from France now have to quarantine because of the number of Beta variant cases "in France". What Boris and Co have failed to grasp is that those cases are mainly in the Indian Ocean French territories of Réunion and Mayotte. Any chance of another U-turn before he ruins the holidays of thousands of Brits?

can’t afford to self isolate or quarantine on your way home from France? no problem. just rock up to Calais beach, pay your money and hop on one of the many rubber ferries that ply the channel.

apprehended by border force? no problem. when they give your train ticket to East Croydon (so you can report to Lunar House) just stay on the train and mingle in London….

New cases in the UK yesterday - 55,000.

A bit more attention on this side of the Channel should be Johnson’s priority.

In the UK the rise is 44,000.

I wonder if the illegal immigrants have to quarantine for 10 days. From the reports the hotels are not up to the standard some are expecting, so could be more riots.

I like the fact that flying to Reunion from France is the longest domestic flight in the world.

Diddlydo is correct. I’m getting thoroughly pi55ed-off the way this Government is fannying around with foreign travel.

Personally I’m desperate to get away.

The self-righteous on this site will nasally whine that there’s no need to go abroad when you can holiday in the UK, but (a) I don’t want to holiday in the UK, (b) I want guaranteed weather, and (c) if the experience of my boss is anything to go by, who tried to book a week in Dorset in a cottage and was quoted £5k, I don’t want to line the pockets of people profiteering.

the question presumably is how many Réunionese have flown to France recently (or how many French have holidayed in the Indian Ocean the way Brits often do). Maybe Paris will be able to demonstrate that none have, maybe not, but till then TTT is right: the virus travels.
