Horse Racing
Another very good reason for hating the sport. Horses basically treated well whilst they bring in the money.

Not a racing problem it is a peta and abattoir problem. Most of the horse carcases are exported to France and Belgium where they are eaten by the citizens, anything not used for that purpose is fed to domestic pets. Every town once had a knackers yard and the stench of hooves being boiled to make glue was almost as bad as the stink of hypocrisy that has taken it's place.

Animals aren't humans - on the whole we treat them differently!
Humans are animals! In fact the most destructive animals on this planet who have abused the fact that they have more brain power (not always the case). Nice to see that the majority on this thread are compassionate.

youngmafbog: "...after all there is no context in that number"
The context is "killed in slaughterhouses".
"killed inhumanely"? Like, 'killed without compassion' ?
"Davebro. Are you serious? If humans were bred to labour on plantations before being shot when they were past their physical prime, would you say that at least they had a bit of a life before they were killed?" answer = "davebro: Animals aren't humans - on the whole we treat them differently" i.e. we treat them as it suits our tastes. (argumentum ad selfishness)... was almost as bad as the stink of hypocrisy

The OP's link states that, since 2019, some 4,000 ex racehorses have been sent to the abattoir - most of these from Ireland - where ill-treatment is apparently carried out.
My link states that, as at 2018, some 13,000 ex racehorses were registered with the BHA to be retrained in other aspects of equestrian sports. "British racing's owners - represented by the Racecourse Owners Association - have recently agreed to further increase their prize money contribution to funding for rehoming and retraining of retired racehorses."
The BHA are ever-mindful of the opposition to horseracing and do their utmost to ensure the safety of the animals during their racing careers and afterward.
My guess is that the first the BHA knew of the apparent 'ill-treatment' of this abattoir, is when they were approached for a response by the Panorama team. They will, no doubt, take the necessary action to ensure that this practice ends forthwith.
