Are You Worried About Climate Change?
Is it acceptable for this government to ask us to make expensive changes to our lifestykes such as buying electric cars and scrapping gas fired central heating boilers among other things and enshrining in law that we must be carbon neutral by some arbitrary date when no other country on the planet has made such promises. Add this to the fact we only produce 2% of worlds emissions. Are we cutting our own throats to prove how virtuous we are while the biggest polluters of the world carry on as normal?

//I can point to the fact that they [China] are doing a lot more than us.// They have the scope. China's emissions per capita increased by around 360% between 1990 and today. India's increased by a similar amount. There is not a cat in Hell's chance of those two countries reducing their emissions to the same level (per capita) as the UK. As usual the UK will be near...

China is currently running 1,058 coal plants – more than half the world’s capacity.
But the country’s stated goal is to become "carbon neutral" by 2060.
China must take radical action now. China must close 588 coal-fired power plants in a decade to meet its climate pledges.
Sounds unlikely. But the cost of producing renewable energy has plummeted.
It is now far cheaper to produce energy from renewable sources than it is to burn coal.
If they ditch 600 coal power stations, they will save £1.2Trillion.

Webbo, just measured it on Google Earth, and the farm is a kilometre from the sea.
A bit misleading to call it a beach front. It has a sea view but is quite a distance from sea.

Kerry did good business. It was on the market for $14million and he paid less than $12million.

waste of time the human race is done, resources depleted, ocean polluted and over fished, unfettered human population growth, let alone wars, and were talking about pollution...jeez, see the big picture
to many people, and who all want the same as we have, it's not mine or your fault, but its unsustainable, = wars

//Regardless of cause surely you'd agree that everything being colder and wetter would have some sort of effect on a fire.//
Agreed. But Greece is never cold and wet at this time of year. It's dry and hot. It's always dry and hot. I first went there in 1972. It was dry and hot. I was caught in a forest fire in Corfu a few years ago and had to leave my villa at 2am. It was dry and hot. Any fire that starts there at this time of year is likely to spread. It probably has not rained significantly there for more than two months. That's not unusual, it's commonplace and it's nothing to do with climate change.

New Judge // It was dry and hot //
I’m sure you’ve had some sweltering holidays but those are quite far removed from scientific measurements and analysis. It’s about whether it’s trending towards drier and hotter long term, and it would look that way based on measurements. That climate trend favours fires, which we’ve agreed on.

Climate change is not man-made. It's natural. The Earth is STILL emerging from the last Ice-Age and continues to warm up. That will continue for approx another 3,000 years, when the climate will flip and recede into another Ice-Age. It's what happens with this planet and has done since it was first formed. The main influence on the weather on this planet is the Sun, not cars and factories. People should be more concerned for the plastic pollution. That will choke the planet long before global warming does.
