It gives her a pro-independence majority so she can pass legislation to have another referendum.

well she has half the seats anyway and they can't hold a referendum without approval from the UK.
"That may have particular resonance in the months before the UN climate summit - COP26 - is held in Glasgow." -BBC Link

It would give a further sham veneer to the charade that starts in Glasgow on All Saints' Day, and SNP do not have half of the seats, they are one short, so the 8 Greens would be useful.

gov(64) opposition(64) - that's half when I went to school. Presiding officer, one assumes is impartial.
Presiding officer.... "They do not take part in debate, or vote except to break ties" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presiding_Officer_of_the_Scottish_Parliament#Office

50-50 is a deadlock.
"they can't hold a referendum without approval from the UK."

There is already legislation allowing a referendum, the Referendums (Scotland) Act 2020.
The convention for a tied vote is the Presiding Officer votes against a change.
Not really bothered about Scotland.

It would be really great if the English Conservative Party could unite and the two factions could agree a common goal.
MYbe best to start a new thread grommet if you want too discuss the cons.party in England. The question was about SNP and there majority and greens
I think Bojo is still holding the SNP to the once in a generation/once in a lifetime vow.I would expect an IndyRef2 no sooner than 2032.If it is worth having it is worth waiting for.
ynnaf; ~ " I think Bojo is still holding the SNP to the once in a generation/once in a lifetime vow."

When did the *actual voters* ever agree to such a condition ?
Johnson and the Conservative Party are irrelevant in Scotland.
The SNP should crowd-fund a referendum, and send the results to Boris’s desk at No.10.
Question Author
yes but it would only be a straw poll at best gromit, they can pass whatever they like up there but they still need permission from Westminster to hold an actual referendum, end of.
@21.50.It wasnt the voters as such it was Alec Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon who made the vows. They also vowed to respect the decision of the people of Scotland.Fat chance.

Not sure why that is addressed to me?

Scotland can vote for whatever it likes, and Westminster can ignore it.
It wasnt. It was addressed to sevenOP.
In 2016, the Secretary of State for Scotland said, "If the people of Scotland ultimately determine that they want to have another referendum there will be one.”

"Could there be another referendum? The answer to that question is yes. Should there be another referendum? I believe the answer to that question is no."
Every 18 years("once in a generation")would be acceptable to me,TCL.Then win or lose another one in 2050.Whats the SNPs hurry? An independent Scotland isnt going to get admitted to the EU any time soon.
It gives the SNP a majority. Not that mysterious.
"If it is worth having it is worth waiting for."

If you were offered a million pounds now or the same amount in 2041 raised in line with inflation, would you rather wait?
