The 'other stuff' would say all their chickens are pumped full of chemicals to keep them from being ill so in fact are healthier. I only buy Free range (not organic) because of welfare concerns . All animals need to be dewormed and I don't think there is a truly effective way of deworming using organic methods. I once found an oven ready organic chicken with remnants of round worms in 'the cavity' -put me off organic for life that did.
Hi roadie
doesnt seem worth paying more for free range chick-chick if avoiding salmonelly is you sole concern
A total of 135 processed free-range chickens from four different commercial free-range chicken producers were sampled in 14 different lots for the presence of Salmonella. Overall, 9 (64%) of 14 lots and 42 (31%) of 135 of the carcasses were positive for Salmonella.

Most outbreaks of salmonella is down to bad hygiene, humans can also be carriers without having symptoms and not know it. A few years back 15 people worked in a food factory, that supplied about twenty shops, x amount of people who had bought goods from the shops ended up in hospital, we traced it back to the factory obviously, All 15 workers at the factory had their poo poo tested, one worker proved to be the carrier.
