Assuming Emma and Leylah play anything close to how they have through this fortnight, this could be a classic! Not to be missed.

Fantastic! So pleased for Emma :o)

Ken, she had blood running down her leg. I'm sure it wasn't a case of her being hurt, but cleaning up the wound, and making sure she wasn't dripping blood everywhere.

I'd have to check the rulebook but I think that any open wound is a mandatory timeout. It looked like Emma was about to play but then noticed the wound, so I don't think she wanted to stop either.
Besides, on a hard court, wouldn't any blood have presented a slipping hazard? I sure I saw them pausing the game to clear sweat off the court in a previous match.
I wonder if Murray Mound will now be Ranucanu Ridge?
Unlikely. Andy Murray has said many times that there is no such place and that it will always be Henman Hill as far as he is concerned.

You must have read Brian Reade's column, today, TCL :-)
Never heard of him and there was I thinking I was being original!
Mozz, if you saw them clearing sweat off the court, that's all you'd see them do if i were playing. I suffer from Hyperhidrosis - excessive sweating. In extreme heat, i'd work a sweat up peeling a banana before the match began :-)
Probably best to stick to the grass courts then Ken. Water the greenery while you play.
can't you work up some kind of a deal with Prince Andrew, Ken?
Great win for GB. Well done, congratulations.... and Brits....just enjoy the moment.....Gx
Mozz, the grass courts got watered enough - every time Andy Murray got beat :-J

You must have been watching a different game to us
As was pointed out in the commentary Emma had no choice in the matter because the rules stipulate that in such an event where free fluid is present on the court the wound must be treated whether the player wants it or not
I would guess that Emma did not like stopping whilst in full flow either
It is the rule but Fernandez did herself no credit by arguing with the referee
Let us not forget that she is the one who’ll eat the court at the end of the first set but I did not see Emma bitching about it to the umpire
*who left the court

As opposed to who’ll eat

eh?
Sticky, players often leave the court between sets on a bathroom break. It's completely permitted.
One thing i did find a little sad and that was the fact her parents couldn't be there to see her momentous win. Hugging your coach and retinue is all well and good, but that extra special hug from mum and dad is something else.
Question Author
Presumably, Emma didn't complain about Leylah leaving between sets because she wasn't gone that long. Trying to manufacture reasons to criticise her now.

The reason this final was so great is because Emma and Leylah were both playing brilliantly -- sustaining the same form, or close to it, that they'd shown all tournament.

I know and that is my point.
Ken is complaining about the injury but the rules were followed
Just as the rules were followed during the bathroom break but I did not see Emmasatinv anything
Fernandez was classless when complaining to the referee
Everything was above board and Emma had no choice in play being stopped
Sticky, read my post again. I wasn't 'complaining' about the injury. I was merely stating that i can understand her opponents frustration.
By the way, 'Emma' this, and 'Emma' that. Yet always 'Fernandez'. Can't even be bothered to show a great player the respect she deserves.
