"With a charismatic new leader, they will storm the next election. Or maybe the infighting and petulance will continue for another decade or more. " - no, real labour cannot ever win again, as St Tony ably demonstrated to win they must become Tories. Labour have been in existence for 120+ years, in all that time they have been on power for 30, 10 of those as Tory lite. Even in the depths of crises Boris is polled ahead and EC have him winning a clear majority if a GE were held tomorrow. Nope Labour in its current form will never touch the leavers of power again. The question is do they realise it?

He’s a decent man Andy McDonald but to be honest although much will be made of this it’ll be forgotten in due course.
These are tough times for Labour and the shock waves from such a bad election defeat are not going to settle quickly.
How honestly difficult is it for people to get the leader’s name right btw? It’s only 4 little letters :-)

Your own quote from Starmer’s essay shows he understands very well that the Tories shape shift to suit the times. And do it very well. Only Blair in living memory has understood Labour needs to do the same.
Starmer may not win an election but he’s winning, like I say, the battle to purge the policy makers who want to take the party back to oblivion. In a few months it’s likely no one will remember these futile wrecking ball incidents by the Left.
