Johnson's Party Bilge
Just turned off Johnson's party political "speech".
Absolutely true about empty vessels.
Preaching to a preening audience fearful of their jobs.

I wouldn't be so sure. Johnson is really not popular and if he continues with his wife's Green policies could push traditional Tory voters (like myself) to vote for Reform or other similar parties. Also if he is still in No10 the red wall will return to labour. Labour could then get in by the back door.

After being out for most of the day I had a quick "flick through" some of the address and loved the bit where Boris mocked Barnier who has just started campaigning on a French sovereignty, border control, ticket with the forthcoming French elections in mind. Boris said ... "Is it not a sublime irony that even in French politics there is now a leading centre-right politician calling for a referendum on the EU. Who is calling from France to reprendre le control? It is good old Michel Barnier. That is what happens if you spend a year trying to argue with Lord Frost."
However, as the Red Wall has been mentioned, I believe that it will mainly be restored at the next election. There were 2 reasons why it fell:
1. Brexit
2. Jeremy Corbin
Neither will be an issue next time. I'm not saying Labour will have an over all majority, but I believe they will recover most of the seats they lost at the last GE.

Ich, it's a Party conference. All of them (Con/lab/lib etc) use sound bites and if they ever utter 'policy' if rarely manifests itself. It's to get the Party faithful to cheer them on.
Having said that I did loo at this one thanks to this thread. It was just full of bluster and bad taste jokes. Crime doen because he locked us up. Hmmm.

I understand that ymb, but he is also speaking to the country (felt like he was in a large, darkened wigwam, somehow, tho maybe that’s my imagination!).
And “vacuous and economically illiterate” the Adam Smith Institute called it: which is interesting given my “I’m not an economist, but” observation the other day.
Is the idea to solve the pay versus productivity issue by simply reducing the workforce through automation, or “upskilling” “everyone”?
How would that work?
As for “levelling up”
Hmmm ..

Interesting you mention bad taste jokes: his description of the Labour heckler (which was no doubt accurate!) was I thought very poor and also not well thought through: he should be telling the faithful that Starmer is under fire from lots of dangerous ideologies, not picking on the odd hapless eccentric, surely.
Even if it’s not true; after all, neither was most of the rest of it ;-)
