Tesco chief executive, Sir Dave Lewis is to advise on how to fix the supply chain crisis that has led to petrol and other shortages.

It comes as the Office for National Statistics found one in six UK adults said they had been unable to buy essential foods in the last fortnight.

The recent fuel crisis was caused in part by a shortage of lorry drivers.

So, here's a question for the AB 'experts' with brains (more than the Ex Tesco boss, assuming big brains exist here) and even those without, even normal size brains - what's the answer to fix the supply chain crisis, what is the solution?

PP, I pay 50p a litre for tonic water from Tesco.
//one in six UK adults said they had been unable to buy essential foods in the last fortnight.//

Find me one!
What is "essential"? No pasta - use spuds or rice, no filtered milk - use ordinary or long life, Aldi & Lidl seem fully stocked!
I see the 'thought police' are out in force today - don't post anything about door-knobs.
Why does gulliver find it so hard to admit some of us haven't had trouble getting fuel or food. Yes they have had some problems in certain parts where panic buying has been out in force but in others we have had no problems or very little. He takes so much interest in running the country down for someone who says he lives abroad.
//one in six UK adults said they had been unable to buy essential foods in the last fortnight.//

I don't believe that.
// My friend stopped being a lorry driver when his boss installed a web cam in his cab - facing him. //

this is increasingly common in the transport sector, and is now being accepted on the railways too, on the basis that driving is one of the most hazardous activities in the world of work. its function is not to spy, per-se, but to watch the driver for signs of fatigue, periods of zone-out, road rage, anything that may lead the driver into a potential RTI situation. the system is driven by AI which is programmed to "know" what it's looking for. its partner in the system, the dashcam, is programmed to recognise traffic signals, other vehicles and pedestrians, and even the colour of signals when passed. the system only operates when the vehicle driving desk is activated by the key.
Yes, mushroo, it is common practice now which is why my friend moved to a different job completely and didn't switch to driving for a different employer
"its function is not to spy, per-se..."

I don't believe that for a minute. Just another stick to beat us slaves with.

Interesting answers. I suspect regarding..

'one in six UK adults said they had been unable to buy essential foods in the last fortnight.'

davebro 'What is "essential"? No pasta - use spuds or rice, no filtered milk - use ordinary or long life, Aldi & Lidl seem fully stocked!'

I suspect the diet of many will consist of more unhealthy 'fast food' rather than healthy fresh fruit and veg, as food prices increase due to shortages etc it's the poor in our communities that suffer most.

The solution (it's coming anyway.. so the tech people keep telling us) AI and self driving lorries, that will fix everything..?
1ozzy // Our farmers haven't had the usual influx of backpackers this year, or last.
Aren't they bleating like poddy lambs.
Pay a decent wage, get a decent worker.//

Farmers don't make money out of seasonal workers. The veg or fruit has already been sold to Supermarkets on most big farms. I'm sure Farmer Giles would be happy to pay a bigger wage if the Supermarkets would pay more for their products, and consumers would be prepared to pay double for their fruit and veg.

Most seasonal workers are very happy with the pay they get or they would not come over would they?
I've not seen any shortages in Aldi, Asda or Morrisons.
People will continue to say 'I see no shortages' when the bosses of the big supermarkets are saying the opposite on TV.
19.03, Think they wear blinkers in the supermarkets when they walk down the aisles APG.
So when did you last walk down an aisle in a British supermarket Gulliver?
I guess my experience is far more recent than yours. No shortages here.
And, no shortages in my town either !

Ok, so no shortages that's good to hear.

For the AB 'experts' here with brains (yes I do appreciate that is an oxymoron despite what they would have us believe) plus the extra ability to notice things when out in a supermarket.. that The Supply Chain Crisis is a reality despite what Big Bad Boris has been saying up to very recently.. them that are not in denial (VLI's) that B*exit could be anything other than the best thing ever to happen in living memory.. sorry to shock you, I will break it to you gently, there ARE actually shortages < SHOCK!! HORROR!! >
