A slice of reality for Alex Scott.

She continued: ‘That ownership of a human life is so wrong. I don’t think that stories are told a lot about Black people owning slaves. People hide their past because maybe they see it as something that people will frown upon if they tell true stories. But I will never be ashamed of my history because it’s made me the person I am today.’

Good on her for saying that ownership of slaves by black people are not told. She's bang-on.
She shouldn't be ashamed because she had no control over something that happened before she was born... needless to say the same goes for white people whose ancestors owned slaves.

Good for her. 100% agree.with the OP.
Quite right. Too much is swept under the carpet because to broadcast it wouldn't sit well with the current requirement for white shaming.
Is it covered up?

I hardly think so.

Africans sold fellow Africans into slavery for example.
It’s just that we concentrate on race because people simple don’t think. And I suspect paranoia comes into it too
The same happened to Ainsley Harriott a few years ago on the same programme - he was devastated at the revelation.

It's overlooked as much as possible.
This is a hard one for you isn't it, Ich but you are off to a good start.
Centuries ago the Cornish people lived in fear and dread of the Barbary pirates who invaded the coastal towns of Europe ,kidnapped and took white Europeans back to Africa. Then they either enslaved them and forced them to work for their black masters or demanded high ransoms from the European countries. Everyone should read up on White Slavery .

Marvin Humes also discovered his ancestors owned slaves. He had no idea at the time that black people had ever owned slaves.

Maybe it should be covered on Black History Month?
Agreed.

If anyone is interested there is a programme called '1000 years a slave' on Tuesday evening, CH5. Hopefully it shows all aspects of slavery.
The self righteous cancel brigade will be tying themselves up in knots over this one.
Early 1700s was a terrible time for the kidnapped white slaves. Taken to Morocco and put in auctions. Sold to the highest black bidders. Beaten, starved and forced into submission . Islam had declared war on Christianity and forced the Europeans to convert to being Muslims.
Modern day slavery is still being carried out in parts of Africa even today. Black people need to be reminded of what went on in their past and what is still happening.
I don't understand all this cobras, who cares what your relatives did N generations ago, totally irrelevant to the person today.
I have not seen the programme, but somehow I am doubting that someone called Robert Francis Coombs was a black man.

Best that you do not watch 12 Years A Slave
As if anybody called Solomon Northup was black ?
Sheesh !

Do you have to argue every single point just out of sheer bloody mindedness ?
Yes silly point from gromit. Coombes is no whiter a name than Lawrence, lammy sterling, Rashford ...
Although to be fair to Gromit many black people of today got their name from the plantation owners. They simply took on their surname (or were given it)

Slavery has been across the World, I suspect no race is excluded from it if you look for it. At present you would think only white people ever enslaved others - because thats how the left want to portray it. But its not.

As said above, no one today should be ashamed, whilst a very few might still be living of the proceeds most are not, the cash has long gone.
