People hide their past because maybe they see it as something that people will frown upon if they tell true stories. But I will never be ashamed of my history because it’s made me the person I am today.’

Good on her for saying that ownership of slaves by black people are not told. She's bang-on.
She shouldn't be ashamed because she had no control over something that happened before she was born... needless to say the same goes for white people whose ancestors owned slaves.
