The Mail has got its trolleys in robble over the 'sleaze' accusations regarding this politician.

I wonder whether the angst is caused less by the fact that Sir Geoffrey has a second job, or the fact that me makes a serious amount of money from doing it?

The Mail is making much of the fact that he works in 'dodgy tax havens' and makes millions doing it.

Sir Geoffrey advises he has not broken any rules, and it's difficult to see that he actually has.

Making millions may be something for the Mail to pump up their jealous small-minded readership about, but that does not make it illegal.

But it’s not “an obvious fact” though is it. You and I have no idea what he does in his role as an MP.
Just another Member of the Con Crony Club with his snout in the trough. and getting away with it "They are all in it together" get rid!.
What about are own David Lammy then gulliver. He earns a lot even his own radio show
Quite Bob.

He earned £5k last month from LBC.
// but that does not make it illegal.//

My thought ( one only) is that it is not about illegality

it is about standards that are set in that er profession ( PP says that v softly) . - doctors are not allowed to sleep wiv dair patients. Nothing wrong wiv dat xc you dont have a licence. They cant prescribe for themselves or their families
Policemen holiday s from criminals ( sort of) .

Geoffrey Cox has somewhat lamely said the voters should decide altho it is once every four years.

All the cant the MPs came out with over trials, defences, witnesses, cross exam, apply to criminal trials and not standards hearings
gully 's usual anti tory chant - - - applies I think

I think Geoff may be skewered by using his office for a Very Lucrative Hearing and may be done for a payment - not in proportion to the Very Large Fee he deserves but for the use ( say £100 knicker)

deserves, nay well deserved nay worked hard for.....
two or free forts den
Yes. I've been critical of Cox previously and still am but can see this covers all parties and has been an issue for years. Now we have mps throwing acid or been drunk on planes. Standards need to improve
Gulliver - his snout isn’t in the trough; that’s a total lie.

He’s earning money as a QC.

Show me somebody who wouldn’t, and I’ll show you a liar.
I have no problem with him earning big money as a QC.

Not though, when he decides to be an MP.
How much is Sir Geoffrey house worth?

The culture of the Commons is that external roles for MP's 'enrich' the House - I am unsure quite why that would be, but it has been culture and practice for a very long time.

Sir Geoffrey is operating within agreed parameters, use of his office notwithstanding.
Yes Andy, but is his work as an MP suffering?

Hobkirk - being re-elected at least three times suggests not.
Barbara ( boobs) castle as Lady Castle was only on a pension
famously against doctors' private practice - er 50 y ago

Peter - Any danger of posting something relevant to the thread?

Something in readable English would be a good start!
I agree with Hopkirk. Being an MP should be a full-time job.
Agreeing with Hopkirk makes you as wrong as he is.
that is so incredibly witty and original I may just scrawl it on a toilet wall somewhere.
Question Author
There is an argument that being an MP should be a full-time job, but under present rules, it is not illegal for MP's to take on additional roles.
